About

Jump, Little Children on Tour

Jump, Little Children is back for their final farewell tour in December 2022. More than 30 years after first coming together, they are celebrating the mosaic of their music, from inception to final album -- and giving their thanks to their many loyal fans.

Jump, Little Children is an eclectic, atmospheric indie rock band. Their ensemble comes with a chamber pot feel that nods to their Irish heritage, and their songs come with a knack for the bittersweet. The band is adept at moving from haunting vocals and velvety percussion to light, playful strings to escalating riffs. Alongside their ethereal melodies, their songs stand out for their pithy, heartfelt lyrics. Each lyric is crafted with just enough ambiguity and personal detail to give listeners a poignant sense of recognition.

For most of their playing time, they've had five members: vocalist and guitarist Jay Clifford, bass player Jonathan Gray, cellist Ward Williams, and two brothers -- Evan Bivins, who played drums, and Matt Bivins, who played accordion, harmonica and mandolin.

Their Farewell Tour in December 2022 will be their last. Tour concerts will have songs from their early days up through their 2022 album, Foundering. Evan and Matt Bivins won't be part of the final tour, which will be performed by Jay Clifford, Jonathan Gray and Ward Williams.

Jump, Little Children Live in Concert

Jump, Little Children is a South Carolina alternative rock band with Irish roots. The band is named after "Jump, Little Children," the blues song by Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee.

In 2005, the band disbanded for 10 years before getting back together in 2015. A major part of the band's comeback success came from their loyal fans. When tickets became available for the first two reunion concerts in Charleston, the shows sold out in minutes. Later, when the band announced their plans to record again, fans quickly provided enough funds for the album. Multiple band members have commented on the huge impact their fans have on them, sharing that their fans make it all worthwhile.

A few of their influences include The Beatles, James Taylor and R.E.M. Over time, the band has leaned into more confessional themes, especially since their 2018 album Sparrow. Their 2022 album, Foundering, plays significantly with fatherhood and loss. Before releasing Foundering, they released albums such as Magazine (1998), Vertigo (2001), Between the Dim and the Dark (2004), and Sparrow (2018) after their reunion.
