    YOU MISSED OUT

by weirdfish on 12/3/09Troubadour - West Hollywood

    J. Tillman is a truly amazing artist! This was the second time I have seen him. The first time was in a small cafe and sometime venue in Santa Barbara called Muddy Waters that holds maybe 100 people. Muddy Waters was packed to the brim with eager and enthusiastic fans, many seeing Josh perform his solo material for the first time. I was blown away! It was absolutely beautiful and moving, a rare gem of a show that stays with you always. Let's get back to the Troubadour show. Coming off the last show I saw I had very high expectations. I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale assuming the show would no doubt sell out quickly. To my dismay, I arrived to a nearly empty venue, speckled with a few folks at the bar a just a handful of people milling around the stage. It was so sad to see that LA doesn't have appreciation it should for artists of J. Tillman's caliber. Needless to say the show was incredible. When Mr. Tillman is performing I feel entranced, everything else fades to the background and I am connected....to the music, to the moment....and that voice! It's hard to explain but I fell it up my spine and my heart is warmed and pained at the same time.....and somehow, at the end of the show, I am smiling uncontrollably. I felt privileged to be there but felt saddened by the lack of attendance. I know it's not for everyone, those who get their play lists from KROQ or would rather spend the night shaking their rumps to mind-numbing trance/dance tunes, this show is not for you.

    J. Tillman Rocked The Box!

by ChevyX11 on 11/7/09Music Box Theatre - Minneapolis

From an intimate stage, J Tillman, his brother Zach and the band Pearly Gate Music performed with passion and vigor. Not often are you invited into a small venue to share an evening of music with such a talented group. This personal experience included music that was chill, powerful and an amazing display of organic artistic expression. We look forward to their return to the Twin Cities!!
