HOOKWORMS IN CONCERT:

Psychedelic noise rock band Hookworms are known for incorporating avant-garde elements into their catchy songs, which brilliantly marry punk rock passion with pop perfection. Ticket buyers will be treated to massive amounts of noisy texture in between the group’s songs, as the band deftly creates a never-ending, free-flowing tapestry of sound experimentation. Unlike other bands that have employed similar elements, Hookworms is much more about control than chaos, and every sound is perfectly orchestrated and beautifully executed. On their North American tour in support of their 2014 album The Hum, the band is poised to take underground rock scene by storm with their captivating and sonically adventurous live shows.


BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Little is known about Hookworms’ individual group members, and they’d probably like to keep it that way. Going by the initials JN (drums), JW (guitar), MB (bass, backing vocals), MJ (vocals, keyboards), and SS (guitar), the group coalesced around the Leeds/Halifax underground scene in 2010. They soon began opening touring Northern England with like-minded groups such as The Wooden Shjips, Sun Araw, and Peaking Lights. After a couple independent releases, Hookworms released their 2013 major label debut Pearl Mystic. The album drew praise from critics at Loud and Quiet and BrooklynVegan, and Drowned in Sound named it the best album of the year. A scant 18 months later, the band returned with 2014’s The Hum, which highlighted a more melodic sound than their previous outing. Like Pearly Mystic, The Hum has received widespread critical praise and increased the band’s international following.
