About

Hans Zimmer retains his crown as one of the greatest Hollywood composers of all time, creating epic, memorable scores for some of the biggest and most acclaimed films released every year. Those who buy tickets to the films he scores - or the lucky few who may see him on a concert tour - are swept up in an astonishingly diverse and captivating wall of sound, encompassing a wide range of influences. Everything from electronica to world music and orchestral sounds are included in Zimmer's fascinating soundtracks, succinctly capturing the environment and themes of the films he works on. In 2014, Zimmer's score for Ridley Scott’s acclaimed 2000 epic Gladiator will be presented live in concert for the first time in the UK, performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra and Philharmonia Chorus conducted by Justin Freer.

Zimmer, a native of Germany, worked in the new-wave music scene of the 1980s before moving into music composition for film. After scoring music for the Oscar-winning Best Pictures "The Last Emperor," "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Rain Man," he found wide acclaim and success with his memorable score to the children's favorite "The Lion King" and the action blockbuster "Crimson Tide." The 2000s saw him work on even bigger films, including the four "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, "The Da Vinci Code" and "Sherlock Holmes." Perhaps his most popular modern work, though, is his work with director Christopher Nolan; Zimmer has scored the three "Batman" movies and the Academy Award-nominated Leonardo DiCaprio flick "Inception." Zimmer picked up the biggest and brightest award in the composing universe in 1995, winning an Academy Award for his score to "The Lion King." He won a Golden Globe and two Grammy awards for the same score, and picked up another Golden Globe in 2001 for his "Gladiator" soundtrack. Zimmer has also received Oscar nominations for his work on the films "Inception," "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Prince of Egypt." With a sterling list of credits and more high-profile work coming in 2014, including the "Amazing Spider-Man" sequel and Nolan's "Interstellar," Zimmer's sounds are sure to entertain moviegoers everywhere for years to come.

    Zimmer fantasy

by Mimmi68 on 8/24/17Constellation Brands–Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center: CMAC - Canandaigua

The concert was honestly awe-inspiring. It was an artful mesh of visuals and audio, creating a truly memorable experience. The music was powerful and moving, an emotional rollercoaster that had everyone alive with energy and rooted to the spot in awe. The visuals were astounding, painting an image to fit the music and adding to it, supporting it, showing the emotion of the pieces while managing to not detract from the music itself. It was a truly amazing experience, and I would definitely go again if the opportunity presents itself.

    Zimmer was on fire

by jaybird486 on 8/18/17Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl San Diego State University - San Diego

Awesome moment in my life to experience this incredibly talented man live. The crew he assembled was top notch. He even had the original singer from The Lion King present. My only negative comment is I thought was a bit too loud. Regardless, an unforgettable night.

Mind-blowing, even for the casual fan

by MattRC7 on 8/17/17Boch Center Wang Theatre (formerly Citi Performing Arts Center) - Boston

As a huge film music fan with no actual music experience outside of Intro to Music Theory in college, I was concerned I wouldn't be able to appreciate Hans Zimmer's live music. Boy was I wrong. Even to the untrained ear, every score sounded even better live than in the theater. The musicians were absolutely incredible, and added their own twists to themes from Inception, Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean and more, while preserving the sound that makes them so iconic. I'd never been to the Wang Theater, but wow is it beautiful. The perfect venue for a stunning performance. Hans himself didn't speak often, but when he did, he was humorous and earnest with his audience.

I am disabled. So first the arena staff were very accommodating to me with changing the type of ticket I had, and escorting me to the new seats. Very thankful for that courtesy. The concert itself was amazing. I enjoy the music immensely and to me it just didnt last long enought. I could have sat there for days listening to everything he has composed. I cant wait until he comes b ack.

    My ear felt assaulted

by keinmusiker on 8/15/17Radio City Music Hall - New York

Very subjective review; it was an event I personally won't go to again. The first half of the event was nice, however, the 2nd half only comprised of constant distortion and the same, heavy drum beat. I honestly couldn't distinguish one score from another, and it just sounded like a high quality cacophony of everything. I was hoping for some of the non-sensory-assault scores, but that wasn't the case. Also doesn't help that each of these go for 10 minutes straight! They did end the concert with "Time" which was great. It would have been great to have more scores like that. Don't get me wrong; all the musicians on the stage were undoubtedly and hands down some of the best I've seen perform. Each of them individually was great. It was just the choice of scores, as well as the order and duration of each that made the 2nd half feel just overwhelming and left me feeling very worn out.

Waited a long time for this - totally worth it.

by Goovy on 8/15/17Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Have been a fan of Hans Zimmer's music for the longest time possible, and follow his playlists on all music platforms. This was a dream come true, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Worth every dollar and minute spent on this concert. He played some of his greatest hits and my favorite tracks, including notes from Interstellar, Gladiator and the Lion King, I wish he also played some tunes from Spirit.

    Hans in a god

by KB1717 on 8/15/17Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl San Diego State University - San Diego

A stage full of master musicians, led by the Master Composer musician Hans. Rhythms and integration as precise as a Swiss watch. Just wish they didn't have to turn to 11 on every song. It sounds the most supernaturally magnificent when you can actually hear it all. Once they crank of the volume, it drowns out the clarity. Still absolutely amazing. Interstellar moves me to core each and every single time that organ is played.

    Hans Zimmer was on FIRE!

by Starmaniack77 on 8/15/17Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl San Diego State University - San Diego

We enjoyed this event immensely. Truly wonderful experience. We did not like the fact that we were surprised with a $15/parking fee with no where else to park but at that location. We would have preferred a heads up, honestly. Overall, the event itself was amazing!
