Brooklyn Nets History

Founded in 1967 as a member of the American Basketball Association, the Brooklyn Nets franchise began as the New Jersey Americans before relocating to Long Island for its second season and becoming the Nets. After merging into the NBA for the 1976–77 season, the Nets moved to New Jersey and remained there for 35 seasons before relocating to Brooklyn in 2012.

The Nets closed their ABA era as the league's marquee franchise, reaching the finals in 1972 and then winning championships in 1974 and 1976. The legendary Julius Erving won two out of three of the league's final MVP awards. Powered by forward Buck Williams, the Nets made five straight NBA playoff appearances from 1981–82 through the 1985–86 seasons.

In 1991–92, the Nets, propelled by top scorer Dražen Petrović and young catalysts Derrick Coleman and Kenny Anderson, returned to the playoffs, with both Coleman and Petrović earning All-NBA honors in 1993. The arrival of point guard Jason Kidd in 2001 sparked the team's greatest NBA era. Joined by Richard Jefferson, Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles, Kidd led the Nets to a franchise-record 52 wins in 2001–02 and back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. With high-flying Vince Carter arriving during the 2004–05 season, the Nets made six straight playoff appearances.

The 2020–21 season was a stellar one for the Nets, as they advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, losing in the seventh game to eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. Kevin Durant set an NBA playoff Game 7 record when he scored 48 points, but the Nets ultimately came up short.

  • Well worth it!

by JB on 4/17/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

This was a bit of an extravagance for the four of us but it was well worth it. Anyone confused or wondering about ‘kids game’, its just some extra fun during timeouts etc and some cool free stuff for u16s - in our case cool Nets backpacks

  • Top experience

by DAVID on 4/16/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

Easy to order online on ticketmaster from Belgium a few months in advance. Everything went smoothly. A bit unclear where we had to stand in line to enter the stadium though. Best yo arrive approx 90minutes in advance then you can enjoy the vibe before the game. Less time is a bit tricky if you do not know the stadium. Everyone was very friendly. Petty they lost from the Knicks that time

  • Great show!!

  • Barclay Basketball

    by Duke 68 on 4/12/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats, great crowd and entertainment. The Nets gave it their all but the competition had a better team.

  • Nets - Mavericks

by Hector on 3/27/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great. Quick access and sector 119...very good location. We were also able to spend about 30 minutes in the front rows watching some of the players warm up. A great experience.

  • Nice NBA game, great seats

by Nick Diesel on 3/13/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

We are from Belgium and bought some NBA tickets (Brooklyn vs Golden State). Everything was fine, except our tickets in our Apple wallet couldn't be scanned. We had to go to the line of the box office and wait a little bit more, then only 1 of 3 tickets scanned and the had to get an extra person to fix it. If Ticketmaster uses an app to entry, then the app should be available for every country and not only the US. But it was a great game and we had very good places to watch.

  • Great venue

by Diego on 3/11/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

We loved the night we spent at Barclay’s Center but the food was awful

  • Great event

by Ed on 2/24/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Was special to visit a NBA game in a nice and clean stadium. Service friendly staff and no where long waiting lines. The noise level could be a little less during the whole event but this is the only remark.

  • Fab night

by Ajay on 2/23/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

It was our first experience of a basketball game in New York. The atmosphere and experience was fabulous. Would definitely recommend.

  • Amazing!

    by Wendy F on 1/30/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic instructions that were step by step via Ticketmaster to get to the game and access to the game. The game itself was awesome in the suspense of the tension between each shot. The facilities themselves were excellent, kept very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

  • Nets-Knicks

by Nomad on 1/24/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

Great game and great venue. More Knicks fans at a Nets arena…. Too much commotion of people arriving late, getting snacks, and leaving early — hard to watch the game. Overall a load of fun!

  • A very wonderful match

by Tommy on 1/7/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I think this match was very neatiful anche the organization was very wonderful and precise.

  • Great event with no atmosphere

by JB on 1/7/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

Everything about the event was great except there was no atmosphere from the crowd. No one was getting behind the team and only seemed to be there for the event and not to support.

  • Nets vs Spurs

by Esh on 12/30/24Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing experience, entertaining. Travelling from Australia this worth the cost.

  • Awesome night

by Dom on 12/29/24Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

We visited from UK and had a great experience watching the Nets and loved Brooklyn

  • No good commercial for the NBA

by Chestnut on 12/27/24Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

There were real fans to cheer up the Brooklyn Nets at home. The lower seats were not full. Tickets are too expensive in relation what the teams in the court performed. Better watch a college game with more passion. There should be free hydration stations for the guests. Restrooms were acceptable.

  • Great event

    by pvieira8 on 12/24/24Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Well organized. Great event. Lots of fun! Will return for sure
