AUTECHRE IN CONCERT:

Progressive electronica madmen Autechre have concocted some of the most eclectic and forward-thinking electronic music of the last two decades. In concert Rob Brown and Sean Booth take audiences on a high-tech sonic journey, manipulating various controllers to create complex, off-kilter beats and glitchy synth melodies. Known for their extensive and exhaustive sets, the electronica masters wow ticket buyers with  genius grooves, crackling techno beats, and bubbling ambient textures. On stage Autechre are sure to rock your body and expand your mind with their genre-defying electronic sounds and unpredictable creative energy.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Rob Brown and Sean Booth have extensive experience with subversive expression, having initially met through Manchester’s graffiti art scene in 1987. Influenced by the burgeoning electro and hip hop underground scene in their hometown, they began creating mixtapes with a few cheap electronic instruments in the late ‘80s. After trying out a number of aliases, the duo landed on Autechre for their ambient-inspired 1993 debut album Incunabula. The group continued experimenting with sounds and textures as part of the growing movement called IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), employing everything from sophisticated rhythmic structures to glitchy synthesizers in their music. By the dawn of the new millennium, Autechre delved deeper into industrial rhythms and downplayed melody almost entirely on the well-received albums Confield (2001) and Draft 7.30 (2003). Though the group continues to push the boundaries of electronic music production in their recorded output, recent albums like Quaristice (2008) and Exai (2013) have embraced a more career-spanning, all-encompassing sound that blends the best elements from every era of electronic music. Accordingly, their marathon live sets cover everything from traditional hip hop and techno to more experimental ambient and glitch sounds, giving everyone something to groove to.

2nd Time & Blew My Mind!

    by Sunshinerecorder on 12/28/23

Don’t normally leave reviews here but I was surprised to see a one star rating and one awful review! I’ll let you read it yourselves if interested. I find it hard to believe somebody who loves their music would have an issue with them playing in dark, kinda misses the whole point of the ‘braindance’ thing. Personally I enjoy that aspect of their live gigs, it’s like nothing else and suits their music perfectly. There is a lot of live improvisation in their sets and no two on the same tour are alike. I’ve seen em twice, way back around 2012 and again just there at the end of November. Both times they were excellent, especially the recent one in Dublin. I was wondering how they could see their gear this time myself, as it was pitch dark compared to the dimly lit first time I seen them (and yes they were on stage not a CD lol, I could see them just about moving around and the lights from their equipment beeping) but the recent one was so dark I hung around after and tried to sneak a peek at the stage. Looks like they had a screen blocking their view of the audience and their PA system. To think they’d just pop in a cd and F off is ridiculous. If you’re really a fan of them or techno/IDM/electronic music in general then do yourself a favour and go see them! There’s a reason most of the shows are sold out and the reviews on Reddit etc are glowing and well deserved. I hope I catch them again - considering travelling if possible to see them again already on the new year!!

Didn't even qualify as a concert

by Alycious on 10/19/15Mezzanine - San Francisco

I love Autechre's music, but this "concert" was terrible. The stage was pitch black for the entire show. It was so dark we couldn't even see whether they were on stage. In fact, there's no way they could have seen their equipment, so I kind of suspect they just popped in a CD, flipped off the lights and walked away. The point of a concert is to actually see the band perform and feel the energy of the live performance. If they're just going to play us pre-recorded music in the dark, I can listen to that at home any time I want for free. Why on earth would I pay money to stand in a crowded hot club for this? This "concert" was a total waste of money in my opinion. Definitely the worst show I've been to.
