Anna Nalick in Concert
Singer-songwriter Anna Nalick grew up in Southern California admiring artists like Tori Amos and The Cranberries as much as she did authors, poets, and her own Broadway-performing grandparents. All of these inspirations would infuse her creative ambitions, and by high school, she was regularly writing songs, and even getting comfortable on stage singing in a Rush cover band. As soon as she got to college, with a Rainbow Brite cassette tape recorder in hand, her life would change dramatically.
She began recording demos on that cassette recorder, and ended up passing along a six-song tape to a friend who happened to get it into the hands of former Blind Melon members Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith and producer Eric Rosse. The team helped her re-record her songs, and within weeks she was signed to a major label. Nalick released her debut album, ‘Wreck of the Day,' in 2005, at just 20 years old. It hit No. 20 on the Billboard 200 with help from the poignant, sweeping single "Breathe (2 AM)," which itself peaked at No. 45 on the Hot 100 and No. 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and appeared on TV shows like ‘Grey's Anatomy,' ‘Charmed,' and ‘Smallville.'
After riding high on the success of her debut, Nalick revealed 2008's ‘Shine' EP, featuring the uplifting title track. She later broke ties with the label and finally went indie in 2011 for ‘Broken Doll & Odds & Ends.' After a much-needed break from the industry, she soon found her passion for music rekindled while in the throes of a divorce. She decided to head back out on tour for much of 2014, before taking time to work on her third album. With the help of contributions from her fans, Nalick released ‘At Now,' a gorgeous, mature set of minor-key breakup ballads and slinky pop confessions. This would lead her back on the road to share her deeply personal and powerful performances.
