Dark Beautiful Realistic Sad
by dogtired18 on 2/13/12Samuel J Friedman Theater - New YorkWit was not always witty. It was often sarcastic. Seldom funny. Always realistic. As a cancer survivor I related to so much to what the character, Vivian, was going thru. But to be honest, my feeling on sitting in a theatre and watching someone act it out was, 'No one wants to see this." If youve lived thru it, you know. If you havent, then feel blessed and dont subject yourself to it. Its just not necessary. It is not entertainment. Go see something uplifting or inspiring or funny. Cynthia's performance was spectacutlar. It was largely a one-woman show with a few scatterings of supporting characters that seemed nothing more than stage props. Cynthia rarely left the stage, and rarely ceased her oratory. The extent of the script, and depth of the subject matter, was nothing short of amazing. I agree, and have actually said, that going thru cancer treatement is just like studying or the biggest exam of your life. I would not feel compelled to study for such an exam just because i was looking for someone go do on a saturday night. If you do go, enjoy it. Be thankful and be happy.
