My father, my 6 year old, and myself all loved the show!
If you are expecting a Broadway-like production look elsewhere. First of all, this is not a musical but a live-action play that happens to have some music. Second of all, the production relies heavily on creative use of props and imagination to convey the storytelling which I greatly appreciated but I overheard some negative response from other audience members who were more accustomed to full-fledged changing scenery etc. For example, to convey a girl wandering through a ship they had cast members hold a long pole as if it were the hallway with a rail, and sway side to side creaking like a ship. Picture frames become doorways and the antics of the crew keep the laughs coming.
My wife and I left at intermission. While the acting was good, the jokes weren't funny and the story alone wasn't enough to entertain without the 'promised' laughter.
Can't imagine how a dumb play like this ever got to see the light of day, especially as billed for adults. Would have worked much better for kids. It was juvenile and over-acted, with no particularly likable characters. A waste of time and money.
The show was wonderful. It was so very entertaining. Some of the humor was a bit risqué but it went over the heads of the younger ones and we adults sure got a kick out of it. First time at the Walnut Street Theatre. Very nice venue.
Enjoyed the experience a great deal! Excellent seats and the show was terrific. I took my 13 year old daughter - and we both enjoyed the show! It was entertaining, funny, sweet and a great night out.
I enjoyed Peter and the Starcatcher. Since I saw a matinee, it was mostly an older crowd and I believe some of the jokes went by too fast for them, but I found the play entertaining, and particularly the second half gave me many laughing out loud moments. Although there was not a lot of singing, what there was showed real talent across the cast. One moment, as an audience member, was very perplexing for me. I cannot remember the exact scene, but the cast was standing around the periphery of the action and one actor's face was inside a smallish frame as if he were a portrait. Well, his eyes looked as if he was looking straight into mine(as they say "eyes follow you" in some portraits). It was uncanny(I was in row J of orchestra right). Either that actor WAS staring at me, or he had an unusual gift to make it look that way. I tried looking away, but everytime I looked back, still the staring eyes right at me. Weird(and no, I was not smoking anything nor drinking prior. )
Show was very well done. The cast was great. The transitions between scenes and characters was fast and comical. Highly recommend this show.
Our family loved this show! It was very funny, and the acting was amazing. Would highly recommend for ages 13 and up, as a lot of the jokes will go "over the head" of younger kids.
I bought these tix for my family because my daughter loves the book series. I had no idea it would objectively be such an outstanding production and truly a favorite for all of us. The theater, set, funny lines and most of all the actors were top notch.
