Smokey Robinson isn't just the former frontman of the Miracles, or the man behind several dozen R&B classics, or one of the key figures in the initial Motown movement. He isn’t just a National Medal of Arts award winner and an inductee in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Robinson is additionally a fantastic live musician and still a great performer, with an energy and enthusiasm that is incredible given his nearly six decades of experience in the music industry. These days, his concerts are celebratory affairs, with multiple generations of fans coming together to enjoy one of the true legends of American R&B. In epic performances that often last over two hours, Robinson sings hits from his entire career, dating back to early Miracles hits like “I Second That Emotion,” right through to newer tracks like "Don't Know Why" and "Love Bath," off his most recent album, 2009’s appropriately titled Time Flies When You're Having Fun.
From humble beginnings growing up poor in the north end of Detroit, Robinson first brought the Miracles together in 1955, at the age of just 15. Five years later, the group signed to Motown Records, and its first hit single, "Shop Around," became the young label’s first million-selling record. Another 25 hits followed for the band, including "Mickey's Monkey," "I Second That Emotion," "Baby Baby Don't Cry," and the No. 1 hit "Tears of a Clown." Robinson, then vice-president of Motown, started recording on his own, leading to hits like "A Quiet Storm," "Cruisin'," and "Just to See Her." His 2009 album Time Flies When You're Having Fun hit No. 10 on the R&B charts, and tickets continue to sell out for his concert tours, as fans await the opportunity to see this living legend.
Once again, Smokey did not disappoint, still had his silky, smooth voice, sense of humor, and very entertaining!
I loved the music, the atmosphere and the quick entry into the Venetian Theater. Well organized and helpful staff.
Smokey could still hit those high notes and I loved it. I liked his narrative between some songs and recognizing and knowing the words to the songs he performed kept me engaged. He introduced new music BUT I thought there were too many “slow/relaxing/mood” music that made me sleepy, and because I didn’t know the words I wasn’t engaged. I wish the show was at least a little longer, or he played more upbeat songs at the end because Smokey has a large library of music he could choose from! Thanks for the opportunity to express my opinion.
Smokey did not disappoint from the beginning of the show till the end. The back up singers and the band were on hit as well. Thank you Smokey for all the years of enjoyment you have given us
Smokey started on time and went on non-stop for over 2 hours. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Well worth the effort and the money.
Smokey looked and sounded terrific. Loved hearing about the early days of his career. Enjoyed the way he was able to move around the stage. Gave me hope that I might be able to get around well at 84 years old.
Smokey still knows how to rock it. Voice still smooth and sexy with those eyes. No one can come close to singing like him. We enjoy his shows very much.
Watching Smokey move to the music and hear that one-of-a-kind voice still in top form was inspirational! We should all be doing so well in our 8th decade! Smokey mixed classic beloved tunes with brand new grooves that had the audience on its feet in appreciation. There’s not a bad seat in the MGM house, and I’m glad we got to see this show.
The Venue was great. Our seats were good. So nice to see the closer screens on either side of the stage. Smokey was Fabulous! He was on stage for 2 hours! This is the 3rd Time I have been to a concert to see him. Please bring him back soon!
If there is anyone to see in concert please go see Smokey you will definitely get your money worth and more
What an Entertainer! Great voice… Great concert. Everyone should go and see this iconic performance. All of us were blown away.
This concert was FANTASTIC!!! To see the energy of Mr. Smokey Robinson was great, his voice, love shown to the audience and dedicated performance is appreciated!! The Band was SUPER!!! This was a Great, Great Concert!!
Smokey Robinson and MGM, what a combination. The Theater at National Harbor MGM is one of the most comfortable and convenient venues in this area. There is not a bad seat in the house with a first class sound system (and engineers). Smokey put on a flawless, energetic and most entertaining show. I had to google his age after the show....Wow.
Smokey’s voice is as good as ever and he is as entertaining as he was in his younger years. He was wonderful and the memories we will carry for a long time to come.
Enjoyed the show and his new songs from GASMS album. The highlight was being called on stage to participate in his closing song “Cruisin”. What an experience!!! I was in heaven ❤️❤️
Smokie’s concert was top level. This is the second time we’ve been to a Smokie concert and we’ve enjoyed both. His music is timeless. ❤️
This show was the best one to date. Smokey sang and danced the entire time. Don't miss out on his upcoming cities.
Smokey was great, the only thing was, the doors opened at 7pm, the show was supposed to start at 8 pm. Smokey did not come on until around 8:40 pm. Someone should have announced something, instead of having us sit with no explanation. But Smokey and is orchestra and other musicians were great.
If you have NOT gone to see Smokey Robinson in concert, you have missed the BEST concert ever. I took my husband and this was his 1st time seeing him in concert, and after the show, his response was …. I will NEVER miss a concert of his again. The concert was FANTASTIC!!! He is 84 years old, and you would never know it. He sounds just like hisself 60 years ago. If you ever get the opportunity you should definitely go, bcuz it’s worth every penny !
Wow, this guy still has the it factor. The show was absolutely amazing. He is definitely one of the greats if not the greatest. I absolutely love Smokey
