About

Smokey Robinson isn't just the former frontman of the Miracles, or the man behind several dozen R&B classics, or one of the key figures in the initial Motown movement. He isnā€™t just a National Medal of Arts award winner and an inductee in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Robinson is additionally a fantastic live musician and still a great performer, with an energy and enthusiasm that is incredible given his nearly six decades of experience in the music industry. These days, his concerts are celebratory affairs, with multiple generations of fans coming together to enjoy one of the true legends of American R&B. In epic performances that often last over two hours, Robinson sings hits from his entire career, dating back to early Miracles hits like ā€œI Second That Emotion,ā€ right through to newer tracks like "Don't Know Why" and "Love Bath," off his most recent album, 2009ā€™s appropriately titled Time Flies When You're Having Fun.

From humble beginnings growing up poor in the north end of Detroit, Robinson first brought the Miracles together in 1955, at the age of just 15. Five years later, the group signed to Motown Records, and its first hit single, "Shop Around," became the young labelā€™s first million-selling record. Another 25 hits followed for the band, including "Mickey's Monkey," "I Second That Emotion," "Baby Baby Don't Cry," and the No. 1 hit "Tears of a Clown." Robinson, then vice-president of Motown, started recording on his own, leading to hits like "A Quiet Storm," "Cruisin'," and "Just to See Her." His 2009 album Time Flies When You're Having Fun hit No. 10 on the R&B charts, and tickets continue to sell out for his concert tours, as fans await the opportunity to see this living legend.

    Smokey

by Jim & Ann B on 4/29/24The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort - Las Vegas

Smokey put on an amazing show, recounting his years as a singer and composer of over 4,000 songs! During the show, he named over a dozen well-known artists he worked and wrote for. His favorite:Stevie Wonder. Halfway through the show, he received a standing ovation that went on for several minutes for one of his songs he sang so passionately - the big TV screens showed that the ovation had brought tears streaming down his face. After we all sat down he admitted he was speechless. His show in our opinion was the best of many other shows we have seen.

    Amazing!

by PC on 4/29/24The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort - Las Vegas

Clearly, I am biased in that I'm a Smokey lover, as this was my 15th time seeing Smokey in concert, but this last performance was better than ever, which means lot because Smokey's performance is always great. I also want to recognize all the members of his group. They're outstanding, too. Wow!! Can't wait for the next one.

    An Evening With Smokey

by Padvaiskas on 4/29/24The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort - Las Vegas

Enjoyed the venue, enjoyed Smokey. I could have done without the songs in Spanish. His new music also did not please me. Seeing a man over 80 trying trying to thrust his hips was comical.

    When Smokey Sings!!!

by Kelli on 4/29/24The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort - Las Vegas

Iā€™ve been wanting to see Smokey for years but never had the opportunity, so when I saw he had shows at the Venetian in Las Vegas I knew I had to go and Iā€™m so glad I did!! He was amazing and the show was beyond my expectations! His voice was like velvet and it.blew me away that after all these years he still had it!! The night was perfect in every way, including the venue and Milos the restaurant I went to in the Venetian before the show. I had to pay for parking, but it was reasonable for a Friday night in Las Vegas! Thank you, Smoky for singing all of your hits including one of my favorite songs and my very first 45 record, Tears of a Clown, it took me back to my childhood, and helped create a night I would never forget!!!

Good, but could have been better

by Motown Fan on 4/27/24The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort - Las Vegas

Love Smokeyā€™s music, & he sounded & looked great! I know people like to sing along, but I want to hear the entertainer, not the audience. The first half of the set list was great, & I understand that he wants to play some of his new tunes, but we felt that it went a little long. With such a large catalog, I wish he would have done more of his older hits. Overall, was well worth it!
