John Zorn improved Organ Solo was Brilliant
Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles
I did the whole day John Zorn event, with LACMA and then Royce Hall, and the entire experience was fantastic. The Hermetic Organ solo was the ending I was looking for in this magnificent memory that was had. Look forward to the next time John Zorn heads back to California, I will not hesitate to take in what he has in mind to share with us in his live experience. I still am feeling the beautiful sounds that are forever blasted into my brain. One of the top concerts I have attended in my life time, and bet he still has enough in store for us.

John Zorn: The Boring Organ
Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles
There is little to praise of this short performance. Running at about 30 minutes, which was not mentioned until after you bought the ticket, there were only a couple of moments where he was able to pull out something interesting or beautiful. Many repetitious runs of a finger along the keys, dissonant chords at full blast with nothing to counter them except the occasional weak, "tinkling" that opened each new phrase. An amazing pipe organ in Royce Hall at midnight has the ability to be an epic experience- in the right hands. This felt like a throw-away performance.

Zorn put together quite a show!
Town Hall - New York
20 compositions played by 20 bands (or, at least, combinations of musicians). HIghlights: Sofia Rei singing, accompanied by Jean-Chrstophe Maillard on saz bass (quite the ax). Marc Ribot in various contexts, John Medeski's organ duet w Jim Black on drums.
