About

Dave Matthews Band in Concert

With a career spanning more than 27 years, Dave Matthews Band is one of the most influential bands in rock history. In 1991, vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape and sought the assistance of drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville, VA music scene. 16-year-old bassist Stefan Lessard came on board shortly thereafter. Their infectious, distinctive sound garnered lots of early attention and a die-hard loyal fan base, catapulting the band into one of the most successful touring acts of the past three decades.

The group has since released nine studio albums and numerous live recordings, selling a collective 38 million CDs and DVDs combined since the 1994 release of its major label debut, Under the Table and Dreaming. The GRAMMY®-winning band's many hits include "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me," "Too Much," "Everyday," "American Baby," "Funny The Way It Is," "Mercy" and "Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)."

Founding member LeRoi Moore passed away in August of 2008 and the band paid tribute to him with 2009's Platinum-certified Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Dave Matthews Band has since welcomed longtime collaborators/touring musicians Jeff Coffin (saxophone), Rashawn Ross (horns) and Tim Reynolds (guitar) into the lineup and - most recently - keyboardist Buddy Strong.

With 2018's Come Tomorrow, Dave Matthews Band became the first group in history to have seven consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In a Critic's Pick review, The New York Times observed, "willed optimism fills the songs on 'Come Tomorrow,' while cynicism and irony are nowhere within earshot... each song notes the fears and sorrows it's determined to overcome. The music does that, with consolation in its melodies and a life force in its rhythms."

Renowned for their live performances, Dave Matthews Band has sold over 24 million tickets since its inception and ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade. The group's Bama Works Fund, established in 1999, has raised more than $52 million dollars for humanitarian and environmental initiatives.

    Labor Dave Weekend 2023

by Beckster on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

The Gorge is the perfect venue. It was my first time and I was blown away. Dave was amazing. The openers on day 1 and day 3 were fantastic. Day 2 the openers were disappointing, especially the second band. My siblings and I love music, but Thee Sacred Souls was the worst. My brother had to leave until she was done screaming and attempting to wrap. Aside from that misstep, I will be back next year. Fantastic experience. Thanks Dave. You are great!!!

    Amazing Night, Amazing Security

by Traveling Jan on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Dave Matthews Band put on an incredible show, in fact, an incredible weekend of shows!!! Never miss a Labor Dave at the Gorge. Emma, the security lady for our section, was amazing!! I've never seen anyone work as hard and nicely to keep people out of area who didn't belong there as Emma. Five stars for her!! And she was wonderful about handing out water bottles to everyone to make sure we were hydrated. I've never seen that before and she deserves kudos!!! Give her a raise!!!

    Perfect end to the summer.

by Tastic on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

The Gorge is one of most beautiful venues and hosted one of the best bands! Year after year these guys show up leave everything they have on that stage. It is by far the event I look forward to most every year and I can say without a doubt that I am never disappointed!

    A bit disappointed

by Vanilla on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

I loved the band but I was disappointed that they didn’t play any of their older songs. I hated the people throwing things all night. Very distracting and some people were hit numerous times

FANTASTIC! A crazy good time party band!

by Clerg on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Three nights of DMB, and gorge camping. Everyone was friendly, and so happy to be there. Live Nation did a great job with porta potties, garbage, and medical support.

    BEST SHOW YET!!

by DantheDad on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Dave is ALWAYS AMAZING!! Day three was epic, so was day zero! Will be back again every year!! Thinking next year will be going through Warehouse for tickets, just because they get into the show before regular ticket holders.

    Dave’s best, ever.

by Graveslinger on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Dave was ridiculous this weekend, especially Sunday night, possibly his best show in the last 20 years! I’ve been less than impressed at the very same venue some years, but this weekend he was ON. From energy to sound and performance, he was absolutely ON. How does he keep getting better??

    Never miss a sunday

by Nickeerayray on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

The 3 days at the Gorge were amazing, as per usual! The band put everything they had, into every note they played. Sunday was the best Dave show I have seen live. I’ve seen about 45. There was something magical about Sunday.

    Assigned Seating Terrible

by Rubicon on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

DMB put on a great show. Excellent set selection. However, the assigned seating in the bowl is terrible. Live Nation is charging premium prices for folding chairs. The entire assigned seating section is comprised of folding chairs aligned into rows. After the first 15 minutes the chairs are unorganized and it is close to impossible to leave your seat to get a drink or visit the restroom during the show. We had a elderly couple that sat near us, and they left the show after about 45 mins. There was no way they were going to the restroom and returning to their seats. Additionally, Live Nation did a terrible job of regulating people into the assigned seating area. There were literally hundreds of extra people in the assigned seating area filling up all spaces between the isles and overloading each row with more people than there were chairs. Live Nation needs to get their act together relative to the assigned seating area.

    Decent sound. Ok food.

by RPLA on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Arriving at the Gorge required about 1-2 hours to get in, including getting out of the car — twice given we had a roof rack — so folks could look around and a dog could sniff for stuff. Then we followed the flaggers to where we camped. The camping experience was fine except that the price of showers almost doubled from $3 to $5. Not gauging but still a big jump from last year. Vendor options were still weak but the food isn’t great anyway so my crew just brought our own. Venue was about 1+ mi from Standard Camping, but fine given I’m in shape. The bill was steep where we stood and some holes were around that made us worry about spraining an ankle — the venue needs to fill those in for sure. Free T Mobile chairs ran out almost immediately so don’t bank on that. Sound quality is hit or miss depending on where you stand, which is why this venue isn’t “the best.” Also, it is very hard to find your spot again if you leave to use the restroom and return in the dark. Perhaps there is some kind of grid mechanism the venue could employ to help with this? Overall, a nice venue and DMB puts on a good show — although last year he played what I would consider better and more danceable music. But it was still a fun experience with good peeps!

    Star park

by Mikee on 9/6/23Gorge Amphitheatre - George

We pay extra to park closer with star parking. This year that space was taken up by RVs. We ended up being parked very close to general parking. The payment upgrade should have put us closer as in the past. They should move the rvs further away as star parkers are daily in and out.
