irishdancers were great but I really loved the bag pipe band
All the musicians were amazing, and there was a lot of energy on the stage! There were fiddle players who danced, surprising instruments (clarinet and saxophone) playing Irish music, a delightful Scottish singer, and a NASA scientist who played the penny whistle that she had played on the International Space Station!. I did think the balance was off a bit between songs that highlighted the talents of ALL of the individual musicians- one by one- and songs that were played through from start to finish. The performance would have benefited from more of the latter, and just a few less of the former.
For all of the material that the Chieftains have generated in the past 50 years I was expecting more "goosebumps" then they gave on Friday night at NJPAC. Very professional and talented but I'm glad I paid half price for the tickets and I will not be going to see them again. I know they do not need it but I wish them well.
An incredible collection of musicians and dancers in a casual Irish Session style presentation. No script or fussy programing, just organic spontaneous, incredible music making!
Loved all the performances. Paddy Mahoney is a great entertainer. Wish there was more vocal. Dancers were entertaining
When the Chieftains finally got on stage after an hour of warm-up and waiting, they were everything one expects, but it took a long time. Paddy Moloney is a consumate entertainer and a great musician. What more can I say?
What can you say about Paddy & the gang? I'm almost 50 and they've been performing and recording since before I was born! Members may come and go, and sadly we've lost some wonderfully talented individuals over the past few years, but Paddy, Matt & Kevin keep it all together. Even in their 60's and 70's these gentlemen are spirited, well-seasoned performers. I love that they always include local pipers and dancers wherever they play. They bring Traditional Irish music to the masses. It's no wonder that the president of Ireland considers them to be Ireland's musical ambassadors. Always worth seeing, never dull. You'll laugh at Paddy's jokes, too!
I think the Rock & Roll Chorus was a poor choice to be on the same stage as the Chieftans..even if it was their idea. There are many excellent Irish music groups in the area that would have fleshed out the program..... This is nothing against the Rock & Roll Chorus they were quite good (I liked their music), but it was a poor fit with the Chieftans.
One of the best concerts I have seen in awhile. Just keep moving and so entertaining. Really enjoyed. Great step dancers.
