St. John's Red Storm Men's Basketball History
St. John's University played its first men’s basketball game in 1907. In 1910-11, St. John's went 11-0 and were retroactively awarded a national championship by the Helms Athletic Foundation. The Red Storm are five-time champions of the National Invitation Tournament (1943, 1944, 1959, 1965 and 1989) and have also had success in the NCAA tournament, reaching the Final Four in 1952 and 1985 and losing the 1952 final to Kansas.
Lou Carnesecca famously coached St. John's from 1965 to 1992, except for three seasons when he coached the New York Nets of the ABA, and never had a losing season with the team. Since 1979, St. John's basketball has been synonymous with Big East basketball, winning five conference regular-season championships and three Big East tournaments in that span. Behind the play of Chris Mullin, St. John's became one of three Big East teams, along with Villanova and Georgetown, to play in the 1985 Final Four. In 2019, St. John's reached their first NCAA Tournament since 2015.

everything was great the seats were great. The atmosphere was electric the game for the most part was competitive.
Love the Place, Love the Game BUT The seats are ridiculously close Love to watch games there, but very, very uncomfortable and crowded. Pretty quick entry and super easy exit.
The environment is terrific to take a family out to a high quality college basketball game without having to mortgage your home to afford the game. The environment is friendly, fun and homey. Refreshment concessions are easily available at a reasonable cost but beer is not an option which to me is a plus. The only negative to be aware of is that the seats are benchlike. They do not have backs on the seats so if you have concerns with your back, bring a back support. In summary, this was a fun evening that we hope to repeat again soon.
St johns vs seton hall game was fun, tickets were easy to order
Bucket list item for me - great place to watch college basketball - no bad seats.
The seats were so small and uncomfortable that my hisband and I left after about two minutes without even seeing the tip off. As a Marquette graduate of 1966, I'm very sorry to have had to leave and go home to watch the game on TV!!!!
I’ve been to the Georgetown vs St. John’s game at MSG three years in a row and this past January 9, 2018 was by far the best yet. Seeing Ewing coach a live game vs. Mullins was intense. Ewing has a great presence on the court and among the kids. The game came right down to the buzzer and with a Georgetown Hoyas win! The fans were so great, as well as MSG.
Great game but quiet crowd since classes had not resumed from Winter break. Not as many students in the stands as usual. Seats were fine.
THe Garden is one of the two best venues for collegiate basketball.in the country. The other being the Palestra in Philly. I have been attending MSG events since the 1940's,, up on 49th and 8th. Still a great place to go.
Reunion day for all who attended Villanova! Go Wildcats!
Enjoyed Musketeers victory over Redmen! Venue is great, place clean, people professional and coureous.
It was a great game, reminiscent of the old Big East wars. The Johnnies winning made it that much sweeter.
When I purchased the tickets I thought seats were good - behind the basket about 20 rows up. Unfortunately we were in the student section (we are not students) and the students stood up the whole game! Really rude and the usher could not do anything about it. Next time put a warning before we buy tickets to college games that we may have an obstructed view!
Excellent game with 13,000 plus in attendance and Mr Dolan has half the concession stands closed...I guess that's why everything is moving to the Barclay's Center
Fabulous and exciting game, fabulous seats!!!! We'll be there next year!!!
Im a big basketball fan and have been to NBA games, Euroleague Final 4s and Olympic Finals but this was my first college game. I was pleased the game was at Carnesecca rather than MSG as I felt it would be a better "College game" experience and I was right. I loved the experience and would go again, although a small NCAA arena it made the atmosphere electric.
Loved the game The excitement was great. Got a great hat!
Great game, great seats Always nice to see a Red Storm Victory
great seats and great game. The new Madison Square Garden is awesome.
The MSG staff was very friendly, polite and helpful.l
