Autry Mill - Funny and Tense!
Signature Theatre - Arlington
The simplicity of the set for this production was offset by the depth of the performance by the cast of this wonderful play. Although Christine Lahti stole the show, and the lines, her support from the three gentlemen was the glue that held it all together. It portrayed, and exaggerated, the worst weaknesses and fears of all families, but in such a way as to entertain the crowd throughout the evening. Worth going to see despite the bad weather.

Great performance!

Christine Lahti was spectacular - easy to see why she is the star of the show. Her character might have been difficult to like but Ms. Lahti made her hugely sympathetic. Really interesting take on family dysfunction and the depths to which it can go, told with great humor.

The play was engrossing. Though the characters and situations were broadly drawn, it still managed to capture family dysfunction at the extreme.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
Signature Theatre - Arlington
I found this to be a very entertaining and poignant piece of theater. Its a small venue creating an intimate relationship with the cast (though some of the sight lines were problematic into the corners). The cast did a uniformly good job. The production was well executed as well - set and lighting. Just a few weeks left - go see it. The cast seemed very worn out by the curtain call.

Superbly acted

Though a disturbing look into a dysfunctional family, this play was so well acted that you felt like you were looking into their window. Christine Lahti completely embodied her role and it was such a pleasure to watch her skilled acting. I would see it again just to watch her spit out her Rice Krispies!

Nice try, but...
Signature Theatre - Arlington
It's always a joy to watch good actors go through their paces, and these four are extremely good. The script on the other hand... My initial reaction was that the play was written by a very young writer, imagining what it must be like to be middle-aged. From what I can gather from the notes in the program, the writer is fairly new. So it's possible to forgive him for coming up with a well structured play which is held together by a series of cliches. It may have been aiming for Tennessee Williams, but ended up more like a made-for-TV movie. I want to support the development of live theatre and new talent. But at $100 a ticket, I really can't help but think that my money could have been spent better elsewhere.

Excellent cast and story!

The acting in this play was just amazing! Couldn't wait to see what would happen next - lots of laughs but really serious life issues in the story line - well written dialogue.

I laughed and then I was on the verge of tears watching this family disintegrate. BUT, there was hope at the end. The cast was superb and I loved Christine Lahiti, having seen her in the movies and many times on SVU. Signature did a FANTASTIC job with the stage setting. Who knew you could get so many rooms on one small stage! Do you do home design too?

Excellent ensemble. After this saga of a dysfunctional family, we felt "functional."
