About

DAVID SEDARIS ON TOUR:

Beloved humorist and perennial New York Times best-seller David Sedaris has been bringing his signature self-deprecation to both the page and the stage ever since his comic debut in the late-'70s. Sedaris's live shows are equal parts touching and uproarious, taking his childhood trials and tribulations as a starting point and going on to tackle everything from his eccentric family to American politics. Fans of witty, irony-laden anecdotes are in for a treat as Sedaris hits concert halls around the country with his latest show An Evening with David Sedaris.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born to a large family in Binghamton, NY, Sedaris experienced a turbulent childhood that has informed his comedy ever since. After being discovered at a Chicago comedy club in the late '70s by Ira Glass, Sedaris began appearing regularly on Glass's weekly radio program The Wild Room, making a name for himself with his wry, self-effacing stories . In 1992 he made his National Public Radio debut with a reading of "SantaLand Diaries", a hilarious recounting of his days working as a holiday elf at a department store. Since then he has been a regular guest on NPR's This American Life, landed on the New York Times Best Seller list with five essay collections, and received a Grammy nod for his 2004 comedy album Live at Carnegie Hall. Back on tour, the ever-gracious Sedaris will treat fans to another round of laughs at his expense.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"We expected it to be great and he exceeded our expectations. I have not laughed so much in ages. Wonderful! "

"I laughed so much I almost missed what was being send in between punch lines! He has a true gift and I'm so grateful he shares it with the world on these tours! Hands down worth every penny!"

"The best part is that for everyone who has read all of his published work, the shows are always full of new material that has yet to be published; so, it never feels like you've paid just to hear a reading of something that's on bookstore shelves."

Electronic tickets — who needs ushers?

by Sidewinder on 5/4/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Electronic only tickets surpassed my expectations. Ushers were helpful in determining which access doors were closest to seats; nice! Bars kept up with demand but Latte bar was slammed. Book signing was well orchestrated. Program was as expected.

    Funny and amazing

by DrC on 5/4/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

David Sedaris met all the expectations I have grown to have for him - funny, insightful, downright hilarious. He managed to keep the packed audience enthralled for an extended period of time touching on many of the key cultural issues from the downright hilarious habits of dog owners (which meant he had me laughing at myself) to challenging American perspectives of international travel. DeVos loge seating was perfect for the show.

    As entertaining as ever!

by nkrempa on 5/3/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

We first saw David Sedaris some years ago in a bookstore and found him witty, entertaining, and outrageously funny. When we discovered he would be appearing near us once more, we jumped at the chance to see him again. Without a doubt, this evening was even more entertaining than the first, with some incredible, hilarious, anecdotes that only he could have experienced first-hand. I do have one teeny quibble... contrary to his assertion, I listen to audio books. His audio books, in fact. We highly recommend seeing Mr. Sedaris if he appears anywhere near you, and listening c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y - he's been known to bring up certain subjects when signing his books afterward!

    David Sedaris in A2

by Lisa on 5/3/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

I love David Sedaris and was pleasantly surprised to hear all new essays. Great crowd and environment at the Michigan Theater. I was hoping for a little longer show. Maybe one more essay as I did not intend on having a book signed. Those getting something signed definitely got a bigger bang for their buck. Overall, a great evening.

David Sedaris at the Michigan Theater

by MJ on 5/3/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

We've seen numerous Sedaris performances @ other venues over the years, and this was weakest. Acoustics were poor and his commentary was not very humorous. Plus, he started over 15 minutes late.

    Inadequate Sound System

by DanO on 5/3/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

I'm certain Sedaris was funny, brilliant, and entertaining but I can't be sure since the sound system was too narrow in it's range that his relatively high voice came out muffled instead. I heard almost NOTHING!

Great show, needed to be louder

by Michigan Mike on 5/3/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Mr. Sedaris is a great essayist and great presenter of his own work. Humor, pathos, commentary, all done in his inimitable style. Everything I could have wanted EXCEPT the sound could have been a bit louder to compensate for his soft, low key voice. On the other hand, that forced the audience into rapt, noiseless attention except when laughing and applauding, so maybe it was a good thing. Bottom line: a thoroughly enjoyable evening, well worth the time and money!

Another one off the bucket list

by ADL on 5/3/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

After years reading and listening to David Sedaris on the radio, I finally had the opportunity to see him in person and it didn't disappoint! From the anticipation of seeing what he would wear to getting to hear the intertisal comments between essays, I couldn't have asked for more. It was a truly memorable night.

    So glad I went

by denasmaturin on 4/29/24Orpheum Theater - New Orleans

David Sedaris was funny and entertaining with some somber and sad stories. He is also very gracious and kind, signing books before and after the show, plus answered questions from the audience. He seems to genuinely to be interested in people.
