Really a fantastic show! I wish they had more like them!

My friend is an Ira Glass fan so she was excited to go. I wasn't familiar with his work but, you didn't need to thoroughly enjoy the show! It was fresh, funny and wonderful !! The dancers were incredible!!! I wished it was longer!!!!!!

    This Simple Life

by Anonymous on 9/14/14Town Hall - New York

As someone who's never heard Ira Glass speak, but who's heard nothing but raves about the man with the magic voice, I was excited to finally see him in action! But boy what a let down it was. The stories Ira tells left me feeling underwhelmed and asking myself "so what?" If you're looking for life lessons or a genuine "Aha!" moment you won't find it here. Those who already believe Glass is Jesus incarnate will most likely love it, as I seemed to be the only one in the theatre not vigorously clapping my hands at every minuscule thing the man did. The dancers, too, we're underwhelming and tried to create touching moments that fell flat. Save your time and money and go do something else instead. Anything else.

Really a wonderful evening. Loved the combo of dancing and story telling.

    Thoroughly entertaining and whimsical

by Kaaskop on 9/13/14Town Hall - New York

Great fun with some nice storytelling and dancing in the beautiful Townhall theater in NYC. Refreshingly different though lacking some arc or raison d'être. Don't look too hard for a deep overall meaning and story line as there is none to speak of. However thoroughly enjoyable as an entertaining, maybe slightly fragmented, stream of consciousness performance. Recommended for Ira Glass's radio fans, now with eye candy.

This performance was lots of fun. I very much enjoyed the energy given out by the performers. The audience was enthusiastic as well.

    Fair to Middlin'

by McDougalStreet on 9/13/14Town Hall - New York

I saw Glass's last performance at BAM. It was magical intelligent and hilarious. This performance had two major parts from BAM which were the same without the energy of the first and a long affecting part which was excellent, but had no up part in the last act. Magic is rare.

A joyous event - most fun ever - yet deeply touching and amazingly human!

    Creative but unexpected buzzkill

by Syncman on 7/4/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Overall the refreshing concept of integrating dance and monologue storytelling worked well. HOWEVER, we brought a very dear friend with us as our guest to help ease some of the nightmare he is facing while fighting a very aggressive cancer. Unfortunately, not one but TWO of the storys Ira Glass related were terribly sad accounts of cancer deaths. If I could have crawled under my seat to disappear, I would have. Needless to say, this defeated the purpose of our night out and was a major buzzkill. We love Ira Glass, but there is nothing else we can say about the evening except that we wish we had not attended.

    Kind of a mess

by HoneyBunny75 on 7/3/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

I love Ira Glass and This American Life but this just didn't work for me. The dancing and storytelling just wasn't a natural fit in my opinion. And I won't even address Ira's "dancing" but to say "Bless his heart. He tried." The strength of TAL are the stories and the one's in this show felt incomplete to me. I applaud the effort that obviously went into this but it was a weird show. If Ira called it weird at one point.

Such a fun and unexpected experience

by Melliott on 7/3/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

I bought these tickets for myself and a friend who loves storytelling. It was such an odd combination--storytelling with dance--that it intrigued me. It turned out to be a great combo. The dancers told a story, the stories wove around the dances. It was a great eclectic mix of experiences.

I wanted it to go on and on

by Silvercarol on 7/2/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

This was a wonderful, poignant, laugh out loud work of art. I had 3 people with me - one of whom wasn't familiar with Ira Glass, and is now a sworn fan. I love dance, and the dance portion was as entertaining as the stories. I would love to see this exact performance again - and again.

The show was funny and well done. As a big fan of Ira Glass and TAL, this show did not disappoint. It was 1.5 hrs and I could've sat through the whole thing again immediately as it finished. We enjoyed ourselves and had some good laughs plus some teary-eyed moments. Parking at Royce is seriously a diasaterous, terribly-run joke. The UCLA parking people need to be fired. Be early.

The dancers with Ira Glass made the whole Evening

by Chrissiegirl on 7/1/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

While Ira Glass was his typical charming self, (much taller than I expected) the dancers he had with him were clever and witty and of course amazingly talented. If he brings this show to your city run don't walk to get tickets.

    Great show

by MyNickname90293 on 7/1/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Creative show - stories reflected the humanity of Ira Glass's storytelling that I love from his radio show. The dancers added a fascinating collaboration with humor and artistic interpretation.

    Couldn't Have Asked for More!

by Spicyirish on 7/1/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Ira Glass did not disappoint, as this show was awesome. Sold out, and pairing up with the dancers - brilliant! The dancers played off of Ira so well, it was such a pleasure! I highly suggest checking this out to those who are lucky enough to be near the handful of places they are slated to take their show. It was only 2 shows on one night only, so see it while you can!
