TO MUCH TALKING NOT ENOUGH SINGING

by Disappointed on 10/3/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

They came out with a table and 2 chairs. It looked like they were in their pajamas and it felt like a rehearsal instead of a concert. No band,, no backup, no glamor. They would sing one song and sit down. A lot of guitar tuning and talking. If they sang 45 minutes out of 90 minutes I would be surprised. We had a lot more fun gambling at the casino. A big waste of money.

    A Wonderful Evening!

by TomC on 10/2/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Last night we spent an all acoustic evening with one of our absolute favorites, Mary Chapin Carpenter. Mary appeared with her long time friend Shawn Colvin. They had such a great chemistry together, they told stories, joked, they played their own material, along with tunes from Paul Simon, the Beatles and more. What an enjoyable time it was. It was like we were spending a few hours with dear friends we had not seen in a long time. It was hard for my wife to hold back her tears when Mary started playing “This Shirt”. I thought I could record a few tunes for personal enjoyment on my iphone, but the usher quickly shut me down. That was fine, maybe for the best, since I could sit back, relax and enjoy a magical evening. If can get a chance to see Mary & Shawn perform, do it.

    Underwhelming

by Keith on 10/2/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Although I am longtime fans of both Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Sean Colvin, I found last nights performance underwhelming. The artist took turns and joined each other for duets occasionally, but the selection of material was mediocre. Actually only heard three songs that I recognize and I am a diehard fan. there was also far too much chitchat. In retrospect, I would’ve stayed home

by Gringo on 10/2/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

As a fan of both Mary CC and Shawn C for many years I was somewhat disappointed .i was not expecting a rock and roll show but did expect some energy ..age has gotten the better of all of us ..and these 2 are no exception. Their days have long since gone

    Disappointed

by Mary holiday on 10/2/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

I am a big fan of Mary Chapin Carpenter and she only sang 3 of her songs. One of the great old ones because yelled out by audience. She still has a fantastic voice and skills, however I was under the impression she was the headliner. The gals did more talking and tuning up than singing. I did not believe we got the most for our dollar. Would of preferred her co host for a short time on stage followed y Mary Chapin Caroenter. Thank you

    Mary Chapin Carpenter

by MML on 10/2/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Excellent venue for this type of concert. The entertainers were wonderful, funny and so talented. The vocals were wonderful. The ushers were very helpful, as was staff we interacted with. It is unfortunate that even with repeated prompts by the ushers, there was still a women next to me in the FRONT ROW who took out her phone and recorded not once but twice. The second time, the usher saw her and told her to put her phone away. We would come to this theatre.

    Not what fans expected

by Disappointed on 10/2/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Most fans I spoke to on the way out had the same reaction. “That was really disappointing.” The show was Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter on stage together playing acoustically, mostly covers and album cuts. Only heard 3 original “hits” the entire night. Now this would’ve been fine if it was advertised as such, but most fans were expecting Colvin to play an opening set, then Carpenter to play a headlining set of her hits with a band like a traditional concert would be. We were hoodwinked into paying a fortune to see 2 old, bitter divorcees playing a set worthy of a coffee house crowd of a dozen, not a theater full of country music fans expecting a trip down memory lane. Shame on the venue for not properly advertising how this show would be presented and shame on MCC for not playing more than 2 hits. Additionally, they had a very strict no photos/video policy. I’ve seen over 1,000 major label acts perform live (I’m a concert junky), and this is only the 3rd show I’ve ever been to that had such an artist-demanded policy (Dixie Chicks and Bonnie Raitt).

    MCC and Shawn Colvin

by Gret on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Not the best show I've seen. Too much talking and tuning and not enough singing. And choice of songs were puzzling.

    Great concert, poor venue

by Roberto on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Great duo but a little more rehearsing and tuning would help. Casino floor is very poor spot to watch the show from. Why doesn’t the Casino use the two big screens on either side of the stage to project the performance?

    Less story telling, more music!

by givernygirl on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

MCC was great; wanted to hear more of her music. Less storytelling with SC

    Dull

    by L. B. on 10/1/23

Was looking forward and was severely disappointed. Touring with Shawn Colvin and neither seemed in sync, had energy or any idea of a play list. Spent more time tuning and lots of dead air. They even joked about it and not remembering words. Played less than 1.5 hours and only 7 songs. Money would have been better spent and more enjoyed in the casino.

    Wishing

by Linda on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

An overall disappointment. Hubby bought tickets, I thought Shuan Colvin would open for MCC. Turns out it was an acoustic duo tour. MCC was excellent but not enough of her. Shaun Colvin was foul mouthed and took up alot of time tuning her guitar between every song. Wish it had just been MCC.

    Mary

by Fred on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Did not realize there wouldn’t be a band, did not realize they would be so much banter between the performers, did not realize that Shawn Guitar wouldn’t stay in tune, I mean, really annoying on every song having to tune her Guitar, grossly overpriced concert.

    Great show!

by Janay on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

It was great seeing MCC again and Shawn was fantastic. Having that small venue was great. They were able to talk between songs. Share some of themselves with the audience.

    Friends Invited You Over

by Mark on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Wonderful night! Relaxed, easy going format, they did some songs together, then took turns doing their own songs. Plenty of story telling in between songs of their musical and personal life. It feel like they invited you into their living room to entertain you for the night. I put the set list on setlist.com for the Immokalee show that I attended. Highly recommend catching this concert if they come to a venue near you!

    Mary Chapin Carpenter still wonderful

by Oceanlady on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

The venue was nice & smallish. Bought the tickets to see and hear Mary Chapin Carpenter more so than Shawn Colvin who accompanied Mary. Would have liked to hear more songs & words from Mary. Mary was very professional with a cute sense of humor. She had an assistant who was in charge of her various guitars. Shawn is a big personality and overshadows Mary a bit too much. She monopolized the stage with long stories & had trouble tuning her guitar which was distracting. Found Shawn’s language a bit raw but I guess I’m a bit old fashioned that way. Overall a very pleasant evening with soulful lyrics, lovely singing voices and exceptional guitar work. Plan on buying Mary’s new album! She’s a gem. Thank you, Mary!!

    Venue not the besr

by Debra W on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Seating is horrible. Nothing worse than having the thighs of strangers pressed up against your own for two hours. And because it is not theatre seating, short people can't see the stage. Shawn Colvin & Mary Chapin Carpenter were awesome and entertaining.

Chapin great, Colvin not so much

by Mikatect on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Wow- Chapin has still got that lovely voice, and I had no ideas what a superb guitarist she is! She was far and away the highlight of the show. By contrast, Shawn Colvin’s days have passed….she really does not have that soft sweet voice I remember, and it is mostly harsh and screechy. In my opinion the harmonies did not work well, either. I like Colvin’s stories and she is quite the character! I was hoping for more of Chapin’s old hits, but did not happen. Overall the concert was good and worth the money, but would have been better with more Chapin and less Colvin.

    MCC

by DOrocks on 10/1/23Seminole Center - Immokalee

Interesting format. MCC and Colvin alternated solos and did duets, rather than individual sets. The venue is just a large ballroom, making the sight angles problematic. Also, there were no spotlights on the singers, so you could barely see them unless you were in the first several rows. The singers themselves were fine, and told numerous amusing stories.
