    Very disappointed

by Carin on 1/2/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

I am so disappointed. When the ballet started a lot of people came late and disturbed the event. With the flashlight of their mobile phones they light up after their seats. The choreography also disappointed me. I had the impression it was only the second cast. I would have more exoected for the ticket price.

    Great Performance, but...

by BT on 1/2/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

The performance itself rated a '5', but the experience as a whole drops to a '4' due to the obstructed view we had from our seats. We had purchased a four-person loge box thinking the view would be great, but there were two things working against this. First, you had to lean forward to be able to see the side of the stage that was closer to us, and second, there was a large speaker that hung down which further obstructed the view from the box. Again, no complaints about the performance, which was top-notch. It was the venue that drove the '4' as opposed to a '5'.

NOT worth the price of admission

by Amy on 1/2/24Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

I was raised on The Nutcracker and was SO disappointed in this performance! 1. The principal dancers were mediocre at best. The better dancers were in the corps de ballet, and even then they weren’t anything to rave about. 2. The choreography was so abbreviated and simplified that it was reduced to a bunch of arm waving with a few fuetes in between. 3. The children’s dancing school that they worked with was horrible: There were girls en pointe that shouldn’t have even been on stage. They made a point of cramming as many children on stage as possible and it was distracting., and again, the children’s choreography was ridiculous to account for children that couldn’t dance. 4. The rewritten second act was a sad attempt to turn a ballet into a circus, and keep anyone from having to perform the more difficult dances. 5. It was only one step up from an amateur dance recital, and needed to be advertised as such!

    Fantastic! Wonderful! Moving!

by TC on 1/2/24North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North Charleston

The whole thing was amazing; great story, great music, great choreography, great costumes, great backdrop, great dancing! The only thing I saw that was a bit off was a thing that is VERY hard to master and VERY easy to notice was the synchronised movements involving multiple dancers. I've seen the Nutcracker 6-ish times - all enjoyable. This was my favourite!

    Exhilarating

by JDS737 on 1/2/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

I have seen many nutcracker ballet performances over the years, and this one was by far one of the best. The auditorium and the seating was extremely comfortable, and the ambience of the theater was outstanding. The ballet dancers were of extreme excellence and very definitive in their moves and their showmanship. Definitely will repeat this again next year if it is offered.

Great play. Theater admin needs improvement

by Elena on 1/2/24Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Loved the show! My kids (8 and 11) enjoyed every bit of it. A Gorgeous performance! The only thing that I didn't like was the way Saenger dealt with the crowds of people who were late. Instead of letting them in through the side doors, they let them walk in in the middle, and they would come in and stand in the middle, which blocked our view. Also some people behind us were too talkative and that was annoying when they were discussing the ballet and commenting on every scene instead of enjoying it. Next year I'll get tickets closer to the stage so there're no distractions.

    The Nutcracker at Mahaffey

by Cracker Nut on 1/2/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

While "The Nutcracker"is always a worthwhile experience, this one was not my favorite. The dancing was wonderful. The children were exceptional. Music was well done. The story did not fit the traditional presentation. This was somewhat confusing. I would not attend this presentation again. Balanchine's version is the standard by which I judge all presentations.

    Wonderful holiday experience

by YoSRQ on 1/2/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

Went to the matinee of The Nutcracker at Mahaffey Theatre in St Pete. We got seats in the first level box to splurge on ourselves for Christmas. We may now be spoiled. Being so close to see the gems on the costumes and the vibrant colors and the faces of the performers, a true treat! The production itself was amazing. The performers were fantastic. The costumes beautiful. A timeless classic. We may make this an annual tradition.
