Trent Harmon in Concert
The first time the world had a glimpse of Trent Harmon was when he appeared on season 15 of ‘American Idol,' and it was pretty much love at first sight. The Mississippi boy brought his distinctive blend of country charm, soulfulness, and pop-savvy sophistication to the ‘Idol' stage, performing everything from pop classics (Elton John's "Tiny Dancer") to vintage soul (Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman"), country ("Chris Stapleton's "Tennessee Whiskey"), and bluesy rock (ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man"). He poured his all into every performance, never trying to oversell his sweet-but-strong delivery with onstage histrionics. In his post-'Idol' appearances, with hits of his own like "Falling" and "There's a Girl," Harmon follows a game plan similar to the one that helped him win on ‘Idol': leaning into the emotions flowing through him while maintaining a level of control that makes it clear he's in it for the long haul.
Trent Harmon Background
You can't get much more country than Trent Harmon, who hails from a little town in Mississippi called Amory, grew up on a farm, and had his earliest singing experiences in church. Plenty of that down-home influence has seeped into his music, but other influences are at work too, helping to set his sound apart. He was a multi-instrumentalist early on, mastering guitar, piano, and drums, and having racked up musical theater experience in school before his first ‘American Idol' audition in 2015. It was here that his penchant for R&B emerged and contributed to his success. Becoming a contestant on the show's 15th season in 2016, Harmon bowled over the judges and audience by bringing passion and prowess to a broad range of styles: country, pop, Southern rock, and old-school soul, as well as modern R&B. His self-titled indie EP released that year gave him two Top 40 country hits, "Falling" and "There's a Girl." It all led up to a resounding ‘Idol' win, which got the young singer a deal with Big Machine Records and a ticket to the big show, with his debut album, ‘You Got 'Em All,' dropping in 2018.
