I think it was good but from what I saw kids were bored out of their minds they just wanted snacks and the light up toy they were selling for $5. So many people were getting up in groups making things a distraction from the performance and each time there was a break in the show less people came back to their seats. You know when it’s a good show not many people leave their seats at a movie theater, so that’s why I gave it a lower rating.
much! It was fabulous! The music was beautiful and the dancers were so talented. I wish that I would have purchased tickets for a second performance! I would certainly recommend Akron Civic Shows to everyone! Can’t wait for the next opportunity to see another show!
Went with my husband, sister and brother in law.We all loved it!
I went with my daughters and granddaughters to this event. My 8 year old granddaughters were on the edge of their seats the entire show. They especially enjoyed when the cast came out into the audience while en route to Oz! I recommend this to all ages!
Besides having our seats quadruple booked the show itself was amazing. My family and I throughly enjoyed all of it. I do wish that better records would have been kept for seating purposes and that seats wouldn't have gotten overbooked. But things happen! Overall it was asking and everyone should go and see it. This will not be the last Ballet Memphis event we will be attending.
A ballet geared towards children should not begin at 7:30. But regardless of the chosen time, it should begin on time. The curtain went up over fifteen minutes late. But not for the beginning of the Wizard. At 7:48, a little promo movie about the wonderful volunteer work done in the inner city showed. It was touching and all, but not what I came for. Then a preview from another ballet started. I think the intro said it was from another ballet, but honestly, it was so long at that point, I forgot. So we were confused. My dd asked who they were. I was like, well, maybe they're the neighbors. It was a cute preview, but it went on and on. After all this, did the show belatedly begin? No. There was an intermission. A long one. So finally over an hour later at 8:35 the curtain finally came up on the wizard. But guess what? We were over it. My daughter was tired and I was very annoyed. After the first act ended at 9:30, my dd was almost asleep...and she is not an early bird. I saw lots of kids laid out asleep......but also lots and lots of very empty seats. So we left. As we were walking out, we saw a lot of the cast outside smoking. Hardly the role model I wanted for my child. My daughter was like, the good witch smokes? And how does the tin man get a cigarette in his tin mouth? Oops. That was a nice finish to the evening. But what really capped my annoyance was to hear from my neighbor that she got $5 tickets. Really? Then why did I have to pay full price to drive downtown to wait for a tardy show? I have always loved our Memphis ballet. We usually attend the Nutcracker and the spring performance. We enjoy the Russian ballet at GPAC every February. But I won't hurry to pay full price for tickets again. Very disappointing evening on so many levels.
a wonderful show it took a bit for my kids to like it with no talking involved but it was a great show
very good. My daughter and niece loved it. They had never been to a ballet and were glued to it the whole time.
I saw the Wizard Of Oz ballet with my wife and daughter. It was a wonderful adaptation of the movie and was done quite well. I didn't quite know what to expect - a magical musical translated to ballet??? Who'd have thought? Anyway, it was a real pleasure watching one of my favorite movies adapted so well. My wife and young teen daughter loved it as well. Bravo.
