Taking advantage of the importance of social media in the modern music industry, Stephen Dawes is building a tight-knit community around his music. The upcoming artist approaches music from both the perspective of a singer-songwriter and a producer, using lyrics, progressions, and sonic textures as a vessel to portray his thoughts and emotions through his songs. Stephen started writing songs in 4th grade and producing music in early high school. After releasing an EP in 2020 and two singles in the fall of 2021, Stephen’s most recent single, “Losing You”, struck gold on Tik Tok and Instagram Reels pre-release, leading to the song amassing 7k+ presaves and landing key placements on playlists such as Spotify’s New Music Friday, Fresh Finds: Pop, New Pop Picks, and more. Growing up listening to records such as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco and The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips, Stephen combines those early influences with his modern favorite artists, such as Wallows, Dayglow, and Marinelli to get his unique sound at the intersection of bedroom pop and rock. In 2021, Stephen moved cross-country from San Francisco to New York City to attend NYU’s Clive Davis program and is continuing to work on new music, looking ahead to a new project coming soon.
