Sotto Voce began in the earliest of the aughts as the home recording project of Ryan Gabos—Pittsburgh native, Brooklyn transplant. Augmented in live settings by bassist Justin Gonzales and drummer Ryan Hopper, the trio effusively knocks out Gabos's signature cocktail of "knotty guitar work and gently sighing vocal melodies combined with a somewhat claustrophobic lo-fi atmosphere," as PopMatters puts it.
