Rating: 5 out of 5The beloved Shahram Nazeri is unequaled!
by Sepideh on 4/8/14Warner Theatre - WashingtonIt was my first ever Shahram Nazeri concert and i loved it.
And who was the Daf player ? OMG, he was amazing. I enjoyed watching him play that Daf as much as i enjoyed hearing rumi's poems and Sharhram Nazeri's Voice. The crowd went crazy over the energetic sounds of the Daf.
Personally, i'm not so sure about the new style that seems to have been composed by Hafez Nazeri. It is clear that his son is experimenting with new ideas and ways to combine western traditions with Persian traditions of music. Although beautiful, i feel it lacks the authenticity of Persian music. Shahram Nazeri was and is an innovative and creative artist and doesn't need the influence of western music in his style to take it to the next level or to create something different. He has always done innovative work within the frame of traditional Persian music. I have to say i was a little disappointed not to see any Santour within the orchestra. I feel the sound of Santour and 3tAr are the instruments that make Persian music so unique. But i'm no musician. I don't know anything about compositing music or the persian "dastgAh"s of music. However as a Persian my ears are keen on identifying authentic sounds. But regardless I enjoyed the show immensely and will be waiting for his next concert.
