    Under appreciated Gem in Jacksonville

by James on 2/3/22Ritz Theatre - Jacksonville

My wife and I found the Ritz Theatre Museum to be a fascinating look into the history of Jacksonville's African-American community, artists, perfomers and athletes. They have an animatronic exhibit about composer/performers James Weldon and J. Rosamond Johnson and creation of the anthem "Lift Ev'ry Voice." The docent was very helpful in giving us an overview of the exhibits, the LaVilla neighborhood and the historic and beautiful Ritz Theatre. They participate in an international art exchange with South Africa and the art on display was excellent. It is definitely worth a visit.

    Loved the History and Show

by SankofaSis on 9/3/21Ritz Theatre - Jacksonville

I was in town for a couple of hours and ofcourse thought where is the Black History here? I googled and found the Ritz. I went there and the doors were locked 🔒. I would have just left but I called the company instead. They said i needed to purchase tickets online with ticket Master then knock on the administration doors. I did. We got in and then the waiting began (like I don't have a lot of time people) Anyway, finally someone comes. She is just supposed to turn on some machine as part of the tour. She greets us and then says she will give us a little one on one time before she turns on the machine. Ok, thanks. Listen, SHE MADE THAT TOUR!!!! I LOVE HER! I could have talked with her all day long! I love knowledgeable people 🥰. Then finally the machine she turned on it came to life. WOW! This was way cool!!! It was a great couple of hours in Jacksonville 🙌🙌🙌 Thanks 😊
