Openers:
The Body: I couldn't really get into these guys, lots of distortion and inaudible yelling. Short set, maybe 20 minutes.
Brothers of the Sonic Cloth: I had no idea what to expect from these guys (and Girls), I knew Tad Doyle was the Frontman, but that was about it. They were really good, really, really good!
Neurosis: The last time I saw Neurosis was the last time they toured the interior of the States, back in 1999, wow, has it been that long? Same venue also, Liberty Hall in Lawrence KS. Traveled 3 hours from Omaha back then, traveled 3 hours for this show, and was mildly considering driving up to Minneapolis so I could see them the following night. That should give you a sense of how I felt about this show. I will have to let it sink in a while before making it official, but I may position this show in the "Top 5" All-Time shows- I'm 44 and have seen alot of shows from all different genres, so that is an exclusive list.
It was melodic, atmospheric, and melt your face off heavy. Sometimes it was just balls out rock and roll jamming. Neurosis is just plain GREAT live. They always have been and I assume if they get to a point where they are not, they will quit. I, along with many people in my vicinity were on an hour and forty-five minute emotional roller coaster. One minute I would be grinning from ear to ear watching a masterclass lesson in musicianship and the next I would get a sudden urge to punch my friend in the neck as they dropped some blistering riffs. GO SEE THIS TOUR. I almost passed and I am grateful I did not. The only negative was I had to purchase my ticket from Ticketmaster...oops did I just say that.
