The way the show was written, staged and performed by Monica Bellucci and the orchestra was stunning. She is really Callas on stage and the advancement of her life through a mix of Callas letters and greatest opera hits of her career works very well.
But the experience was definitely spoiled by a New York audience that was extremely disrespectful of the artists and their work: many late arrivals, inc. more than 10 minutes after the beginning of the performance, use of cellphones during the show, people regularly leaving the theater to go to the restrooms or the bar and coming back a few minutes later opening doors and disturbing the serious audience, etc...
And what about the Beacon Theater staff? No reaction at all! And even some staff conversations that we could hear from inside the theater (and I was seated in the middle of the Orch not next to the doors), without mentioning the coffee machine noise and the delay in starting the performance because the admission and security process was poorly managed.
It's a pity to see that situation at a prestigious venue in New York, the worldwide capital of living arts and performances. After the Pandemic, if we want people going back to theaters and take the best of their experience, efforts need to be made by the whole industry to reeducate the public and realign their service!
