About
Little Anthony fronted one of the most enduring doo-wop groups as lead vocalist of Little Anthony & the Imperials from the late ’50s to the present day. Jerome "Little Anthony" Gourdine grew up in the Fort Greene neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York and began fronting The Imperials in 1958, who hit success quickly with their debut single “Tears on My Pillow,” their first of the group’s three Top 10 hits along with 1964’s “Goin' Out of My Head” and 1965’s “Hurt So Bad.” After Gourdine left the Imperials in 1975, he embarked on a solo career that yielded albums like his gospel-infused 1980 album Daylight. Little Anthony rejoined the Imperials in 1992, and he participated in several reunion tours throughout the next three decades. Gourdine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his fellow members of Little Anthony & the Imperials in 2009.
