    Life Giving. Life Changing.

by James D on 11/2/19The Wilbur - Boston

This was not a concert. This was a resurrection. Unless you've experienced Jonsi & Alex, you cannot know how it is. And if you do experience them, you will have left behind what you thought was your life, and leave the theatre anew and feel the joy of innocence once again, and meet the beautiful child within you once again, and, perhaps, for the first time in a long while. You will be changed. The intimate space of this historic theatre was as if Jonsi & Alex and the Wordless Orchestra were in a friend's large home, as if you had been invited for tea and cake, and they just happened to be in the neighborhood, and dropped in just because they felt like saying hello in such a magical way...

    Amazingly beautiful

by Jaykokoro on 10/17/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

There appeared to be about 40 musicians and singers in the Wordless Orchestra who entered one by one to fill up the seats on the stage that was atmospherically lit with blue pools of light filtering through clouds of haze. Shortly after 8 a conductor arrived and Jónsi and Alex appeared stage left to introduce themselves and the conductor and tell us what was to happen. There were small packets of candy placed on the arm of our seats and we were told when to open them and eat them (at the conductor’s signal). Then they left to let the orchestra play by themselves. The music was celestially beautiful. The sound, perfectly balanced and clear. After 30 minutes or so, there was an intermission after which, all of Riceboy Sleeps was played. Jónsi and Alex occasionally snuck into the middle of the orchestra under cover of the haze but keeping attention on the music and not themselves. And I got lost in the music while bumping into myself. It was a beautiful experience of all kinds of emotions. I would go again in a heartbeat.

    Amazing show!

by Neel on 10/14/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

So great! It was quite different from the Sigur Rós shows and the one Jónsi solo show I’ve seen previously. They were playing with a moderately large orchestra, and the vibe was more like seeing a symphony than a rock show. Jónsi and Alex came out with the conductor at the start, said a few introductory words, and let the orchestra play one of their longer pieces to start. Then they broke for intermission. Afterwards, Jónsi and Alex joined the orchestra, and together they played songs from their decade-old Riceboy Sleeps album as well as Lost and Found, an album they just released. The visuals were modest compared to my prior Sigur Rós experiences (some smoke and slowly shifting colored lights), but it paired perfectly with the mesmerizing soundscapes they created. I had a second-row ticket, which helped me really appreciate a lot of what the different musicians were doing. There was some very unconventional stuff e.g. violinists with unsynchronized bowing that they often permitted to drift off over the fingerboard, which I gather was intended to create the sense of spacier continuous sounds. When I walked out, I realized my body had totally relaxed during the show as if I had just been to the spa.

    Perfect Experience

    by D. S. on 10/14/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

No problem with seating (all reserved), performance was spot-on and went exactly as expected, at times ethereal and other-worldly, and time calm and soothing.
