An exquisite trio of performances.
I was thrilled with the first piece with choreography by Australian Stanton Welch and music by an Australian composer. I have seen Stanton's parents both dance with the Australian Ballet and Stanton too. It was intriguing, lyrical, and has left me with vivid beautiful images.
The Johnny Cash piece was outstanding and remarkable. Quiet, soft, unpretentious, with new moves, new rhythms, and showing the joy, pathos, and struggles in subtle ways without shouting which added to the power of the piece - just like Johnny Cash's music.
And the Tulle I adored. Quirky, happy, fun, and yet showing the complexity of ballet. I loved the set especially with the hydraulic stage at the front and the higher level at the back. I'm not sure earnest American audiences give themselves permission to laugh and enjoy pieces like this. Take it to Australia and it would be wildly applauded. The whole company sneezing in unison was unforgettable.
I'm so grateful I travelled from Indianapolis for this event even though the Megabus journeys were cancelled at the last minute so I drove instead.
