This was a beautifully written, illustrated, designed, and choreographed show. The video footage that preceded each dance/dancer was highly informative and I feel added to the enrichment of the experience for my family. It provided a better understanding of the different Tribes, Nations, cultures and their peoples. When the dancers performed their dances again, in the second half of the show, it was another fantastic moment for we the audience to connect with each performer when they spoke about themselves and their backgrounds a little. Another excellent well thought out step/stage to the design of the show’s choreography.
My only negative about the experience came from the imbalance in the sound check/music imbalance. First, I need to say I have always loved the percussive qualities of indigenous peoples music, as well as the unique rhythmic singing, and the flute music has always been so enchanting and inspiring to me that I used it as a meditation tool during the labor and delivery of my 2 children. However, in my personal opinion, I felt the music was too loud and overpowering for the size and design of this venue space. One example I can give is the music during the jingle dress performance was so loud that we could not hear the beautiful sound of the dress itself. And the whole purpose of the jingle dress dance is for the dress to make it’s own music.
Other than the music being imbalanced for the venue size, this was an excellent show and we have recommended everyone we know, and shared on social media, too, to get tickets to see it.
