global galore
by IEatsRock on 9/27/10National Hispanic Cultural Center Journal Theatre - AlbuquerqueMusic festivals with multiple stages normally force you to decide which bands you are going to miss, but Globalquerque is scheduled to allow attendees to catch a reasonable sampling of every band, and there were a lot of talented musicians scheduled this year. My personal favorites were Simon Shaheen and Emeline Michel, Melody of China and a great stage show in Oreka TX (check em out on youtube or buy their acclaimed DVD entitled Nömadak TX). Nonstop Bhangra, while I dislike piped in music (via laptop) at a live show, put on a great demonstration of basic Bhangra "moves" that had the entire crowd, and most entertainingly, the kids, dancing. I appreciated the diversity, but would request adding some Italy/France/Russia/Gypsy style music in place of the bands that played twice and MUCH less Texas music (although there was only one band). Overall, this was a great experience and a fun crowd at a perfect venue. Oh, one more suggestion... they should have a sampling of the booze from around the world. I was itchin' for a caipirinha.
