About

Eddie Montgomery on Tour

Pioneering  country singer Eddie Montgomery remains spiritually connected to former Montgomery Gentry bandmate, Troy Gentry, who passed away in 2017. "As I was writing the songs, I think he was helping me," Montgomery told Taste of Country of his 2022 debut album, Ain't No Closing Me Down, in 2021. "I think he's always helping me." Never  straying too far from the soul of Montgomery Gentry's roots, Ain't No Closing Me Down was inspired by Montgomery's late bandmate and friend. Montgomery Gentry's backing band, known as The Wild Bunch, played on the 12-track record, which continues the country-rock tradition of Montgomery Gentry.

Montgomery found success early on as one half of the duo Montgomery Gentry. The duo's combination of Southern rock and country turned them into one of the biggest country acts of the 2000s. They topped the Billboard country charts with songs like "If You Ever Stop Loving Me" and "Something to Be Proud Of."

"Troy [Gentry] is with me and will always be with me," Montgomery said in a press release. "He helped me write this album. I got together with some of my best songwriting buddies and we wrote about life -- the good, the bad, the ugly and the party on the weekends."

Eddie Montgomery Live in Concert

Born Gerald Edward Montgomery in Danville, Kentucky, Eddie Montgomery began playing drums in his parents' band -- Harold Montgomery and the Kentucky River Express -- when he was just 13. Montgomery later founded the band Early Tymz, which included his younger brother, John Michael Montgomery -- also a top country artist -- and his future Montgomery Gentry bandmate, Troy Gentry.

In 1999, Montgomery Gentry signed to Columbia Records in Nashville and released their first single, "Hillbilly Shoes." Montgomery Gentry went on to release six studio albums on Columbia, yielding more than 15 Top 10 singles that made the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including the No. 1 hits: "If You Ever Stop Loving Me" and "Something to Be Proud Of." Their sound was influenced by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr. and Charlie Daniels.

Music was too loud. Hard to hear the actual singing. We were in the last row. There was a bar behind us and there were people talking very loud during the entire concert. Very annoying.
