Venue is 🔥, food is NOT

by Transplant on 5/1/24Churchill Downs - Louisville

Hard to beat the Downs in terms of venue. Nice to see everyone in their finery and, or course to enjoy the horses training. Very disappointed in the food, though. Powdered eggs, cold biscuits, sausage patties tough as frisbees and Eggo waffles. All for $55 a person. I wouldn’t have accepted that quality at a Waffle House. Sad

Good but could have been better

by Danny on 5/1/24Churchill Downs - Louisville

Good event to do but for $50.00 it should have been better organized, better information on where to park, instructions on where to go such as a small map. Initially it was even difficult to find the event. Hated using Ticketmaster due to mark up.

    Dawn at the Downs

    by MaryLou00 on 5/5/23Churchill Downs - Louisville

Enjoyed a beautiful morning at Churchill Downs on millionaire’s row watching Derby horses work out on the track! Buffet was great and I enjoyed my first morning Bloody Mary. Great venue!

Warm, expansive views, but not worth it

by Sweettooth on 5/4/23Churchill Downs - Louisville

The views from the box are great if you want a view of the whole track and were watching the actual race. I thought the brunch was the only option that day, verses just coming in below to watch the horses for free. Needless to say, I bought a ticket, but I didn’t need to. Brunch was expansive with lots of options, but some of the food was awful, but looked beautiful (like how do you mess up waffles?) lots of pastries, biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, cheeses potatoes, berries and fresh fruit with whipped cream that were nice touches. They took away the food after the first hour which was odd so if you wanted to go back you really couldn’t. Folks who showed up late were not going to eat. Everyone agreed the coffee was TERRIBLE< even the server said it was.. I ended up going down below where folks who didn’t pay were and was able to see the horses up close and even pet one. I felt that was what I enjoyed the most. I’d say to skip it unless you really wanted to spend the time there. It was rainy and cold so having an indoor warm option was nice.

    Downs in early morning

by Kenny D. on 5/3/23Churchill Downs - Louisville

For the most part, it was very nice. Great view of the track from millionaire's row ! Getting parked for the event was not very good as we were parked quite a distance from the paddock gate. There was parking closer but they didn't open the lot for us. When we came out, the lot that was closer to the event was never used, not one car was in there. Also when we arrived at the Paddock gate to go in there was quite a crowd with no resemblance of order, because there were people that were going to just the rail and free to watch the horses work out and then there were the people that paid for the breakfast in millionaire row like us. I think there should have been a divider outside of the gate to say which line goes the free dawn at the downs and paid breakfast in millionaire row. Also, the food was ok but a lot of cold items that should have been hot on the buffet style. But over all, we enjoyed ourselves and met some nice people.
