About

Cassie Watson Francillon is known on the New Orleans scene as a powerfully expressive artist; breaking conventions to construct her “sacred sonic architecture” through concert grand harp. Influenced by hip-hop, jazz, psychedelia, and Black American spirituals, she crafts a fresh, modern day revival through collaborations, and radical sonic soundscapes when on her own. Cycling through free jazz, ambient, breakbeat and experimental folk, her compositions and improvisational sketches reflect the intense journey, joy and lamentation of modern Black American transcendence, coupled with spiritually-sonic investigations of Haitian lineage.

Well sought-after for these unique, ethereal and gritty inflections, she has been a special contributor for recordings and performances with John Cameron Mitchell, Helen Gillet, Tank and the Bangas, Norah Jones, Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah, Curtis Lundy, Charm Taylor, Julie Odell, Luke Stewart, People Museum and many more. Her solo acoustic album “This Appears To Disappear” (2020) received an outpour of attention for its bold, spiritual center and received a nod from Pitchfork and also by Grammy-nominated harpist Brandee Younger in Harp Column magazine. The debut album by Shakespeare & the Blues "e.g., Rhapsodic" (2021) highlights Cassie's co-writing and production, lauded by Offbeat Magazine as an indescribably "ethereal, ephemeral, evanescent" release. Offering a rich performance at every turn, Cassie is a thrilling, formidable presence in redefining the voice of a classical instrument in contemporary culture.
