Total Disappointment!
by Metalman on 4/15/24Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic CityMe and my wife were really looking forward to this show. We are both in our 60’s and just love the music of the Carpenters. We grew up with their music. The show was at Ocean Resort & Casino in Atlantic City NJ. However, the show was a real disappointment from the opening song. Being a musician (Drummer) myself I quickly realized that they were using backing tracks. I noticed the drummer was not playing what the backing track were playing. He continued to play a straight beat while the backing track had drum fills going on. There were only 4 musicians onstage. The Pianist who was supposed to be Richard Cartpenter, a flute player and 2 female string musicians. There was no guitarist, bass guitar player, keyboardist or any horn section yet you could clearly hear horns, guitar and bass in the backing tracks. We felt cheated. Also the singer who was supposed to be Karen Carpenter sounded nothing like her. Her voice was too high and she had zero vibrato. Her pitch was also all over the place. Very flat. There was also too much talking in between songs. The show became campy and loungy. After 4 songs in me and my wife had enough and we left. We also had friends who were there but sitting In another section of the venue and later on when we met up with them they too said they had left after a few songs. If you love the Carpenters skip this show as I’m sure you will end up as disappointed as we were.
