I can't believe how incredible these belly dancing troupes are. One was from London, another from Colombia, Pennsylvania, Baltimore, DC, and all over the US. Shakra is still my favorite by far. Last year's "It's the fruit..." was a religious experience for me. This year's act was super original, but seemed to lack the gutteral (is that a word) "rock my bones" feel that last year's act had. Bella Donna had the rippling effect going on down south while balancing two saber-like swords horizontally on her head. Her entrance was befitting any diva. The girl who truly rocked the house this year was Di’Ahna Restry. Her macabre-like circus attire, along with hat, vintage goggles, and super chunky "I'm gone wok on yo back" boots, added to the whole dark, sinister mood of her act. The music mix beats with occasional voice-overs sent chills down my spine. And when she finally "smiled" at the end of the act I was truly scared for my soul. Of course I would have followed her just for a cup of coffee. And I'm married to a fabulous Italian man. Belly Horror folks: I'll be buying tickets for years to come and telling all my friends this is a show they do not want to miss.
