About

Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more.  And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band's "loudquietloud" signature sound.  Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies' calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, and the iconic Platinum Doolittle, considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums.  Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies' live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi.  Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems.  And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.

After disbanding in 1993, Pixies launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally.  But writing, recording, and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012.  Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band's first studio album in more than two decades, 2014's Indie Cindy.

As a prolific international touring band, Francis, Santiago, Lovering began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin. The band are renowned for their emphatic live performances - where they play all four corners of the globe - their live sets regularly rack up to 30+ songs played - made even more impressive by the fact that there are no pre-planned setlists or soundchecks before the band walk onto the stage to play.

Twenty-sixteen's Head Carrier followed and marked the beginning of the band's long-standing collaboration with British producer Tom Dalgety.  Twenty-eighteen's Beneath the Eyrie, the next full-length recording project with Dalgety, was recorded at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY. The recording session was documented by the innovative "It's a Pixies Podcast," which captured a true un-edited record of the recording process. A deluxe edition followed, featuring unreleased demos from the Dreamland session.

Early 2022 saw the band and producer Dalgety settle into Guilford Studios in the woods of Vermont, armed with a true abundance of riches, more demos than were needed for the band's eighth album, Doggerel.  Pixies renewed musical fervor saw a stand-alone single, "Human Crime," leap from the shadows in March 2022, and the band then headed out on the road to play sold-out shows in North America, headline BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, and play Mexico City's Vive Latino festival to 70,000 people.  Pixies' first international tour since 2019 kicks off June 22 in Europe and will see the band performing in South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Doggerel (2022) is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.

Doggerel was toured worldwide to sell-out audiences across the entirety of 2022 and 2023 - with the very last show at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles. Despite the band approaching their 38th year together, the crowds remain as diverse as ever - with new generations of fans emerging year-on-year who were not even born during Pixies 1.0. Pixies will return in 2024...

    Fantastic show

by Nicole and Ben on 9/4/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

This was our second time at the venue, first time at the front of the pit, also first time seeing Pixies live. It was an amazing show, great venue. We were at the front of the stage in the center, but can say from experience that there isn't a bad seat at TCU Amphitheater. Black Frances and his bandmates commanded the stage, put on one hell of a show. Would love to go again!

    Great Show-Great Venue

by Chi Town girl 64 on 9/3/23

First time at Salt Shed! Loved it! Cat power was just OK. Sort of phoned it in really. Modest Mouse was a great prep band for the Pixies and sounded great. The Pixies were awesome! It was a beautiful night with the Bluemoon hanging over the venue. I was most impressed with the food at this venue – it really shows you how to do a music venue the right way. Blows northerly Island out of the water. We had premier seats upstairs so we had our own bathroom and bar and it was wonderful. Valet parking was a breeze !

    Pixies at the Salt Shed.

The band was phenomenal and I love the Salt Shed. A little more clarity on the 52.00 valet only parking would have been nice.

    Great venue

    by SMc on 9/3/23

The Salt Shed is an amazing venue. The show felt long and monotonous. I’d last seen the pixies several years ago - the last year riot fest was at Humboldt and enjoyed. Modest Mouse lead’s voice was evidently straining near the end.

The Sound Board Operator Needs Retrained

    by Music Lover on 9/2/23

We were really looking forward to the experience when we upgraded our lawn seats to the center lower pavilion. Unfortunately the sound quality at TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park was atrocious. Who ever that was running the sound board mixer had the bass cranked up so high, we could feel it flowing through our bodies and couldn’t hear any of the vocals or guitars. There were a few moments, when the bass players didn’t play, that it did sound great! When I think of Modest Mouse and the Pixies, the first thing that pops in my mind are the lyrics, vocals; and unique guitar sounds, not the feeling of bass like I am at a hip hop show (which I wouldn’t mind if that was what I purchased to experience for the evening.) Since the sound existed of only thumping echoing bass in the lower pavilion, we went out into the lawn to see if it was much better. Thankfully we could kind of hear the vocals, but it wasn’t as crisp as I would expect from a state of the art venue like TCU. TCU is one of my favorite venues to attend a show, and we had experienced another concert there the previous Friday evening, which sounded great. For the Modest Mouse/ Pixies show, we were thankful we had brought our ear plugs; because instead of an upgraded experience and view from the lower pavilion for $50 extra dollars a piece, we would have suffered hearing loss courtesy of the beyond loud bass and no sounds of vocals. Either way, the much anticipated evening wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been courtesy of the bass being blasted overpowering everything else on stage.

    Music was Great

    by NotIrish2 on 9/2/23

I enjoyed the Pixies and Modest Mouse show at The Salt Shed. There were some technical difficulties during the Pixies show, but they fixed it. At least you knew they were playing live. There wasn't really any interaction with the audience which was disappointing. It was my first time at the venue. The night was perfect, but there was so much smoking of all kinds. it really diminished the experience.

    Great show, fantastic venue

    by KAD on 9/2/23

The show was great - both the Pixies and Modest Mouse played amazing sets. Outside at the Salt Shed is a great place to see a show! Beautiful view of the skyline, friendly, helpful staff, and great sound. Food trucks let you make an evening of it. Overall, a fantastic experience!

    Short set

    by Chuck on 9/1/23

I think the pixies played about 1.5 hours. Shorter than previous shows. No banter whatsoever with the audience. Like they were in a hurry to get to the next gig. But the music was good.

    Pixies Shined

    by Ilyais on 8/31/23

The Pixies were amazing, and were supported by musicians that could hold their own. Cat Powers set was short (30 minutes) and she seemed to do more covers than her own music. Modest Mouse set was kind of mid, especially when it came to the songs selected for their 80 minute set, despite the band having more interesting songs that could have shown their range and talent. Still the Pixies on their own were worth price of admission. The Art Park venue in Lewiston was fun and spacious and the sound carried well.

    Love the Pixies

    by Concertgoer99 on 8/31/23

I love the Pixies- they put on a great show! Modest Mouse kicked as well!! My only complaint is the venue. The stage is facing away from the hill, the lawn and more than half of the concert goers….

The Pixies and Modest Mouse were excellent at the Ampitheatre in Bridgeport, CT. Both bands are consistently excellent live. Great place to see a show.
