About

Phish in Concert

Probably no other band around today is more about the live experience than Phish. As the undisputed kings of the jam-band movement that began in the '80s and exploded in the '90s with bands like Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, and The Spin Doctors, they defined a style that was song-based but also about improvisation and the magic of the moment. When they brought their creative collision of rock, jazz, funk, folk, and country influences to a quickly expanding grassroots fan base in the '80s, a movement was born -- one in which the music was constantly developing before the audience's eyes and ears. Trey Anastasio's guitar, Page McConnell's keyboards, Mike Gordon's bass, and Jon Fishman's drums engage in a four-part conversation that's constantly evolving. Whether the band is playing tunes off classic Phish releases like 'Billy Breathes' and 'The Story of the Ghost,' or performing one of their famous Halloween shows where they cover another artist's album in its entirety, like The Who's 'Quadrophenia' or Talking Heads' 'Remain in Light,' Phish is always in flux. While headlining festivals like Bonnaroo, or hosting their own, like The Clifford Ball and Magnaball, or keeping an event all to themselves, the band maintains an unbreakable connection with their huge, hardcore audience of Phish Heads.

Phish Background

Phish got its start at The University of Vermont in 1983, when guitarists Trey Anastasio and Jeff Holdsworth, bass man Mike Gordon, and drummer Jon Fishman started jamming informally. But by the mid '80s, when Holdsworth had departed and keyboardist Page McConnell arrived to solidify the band's lineup, the band was truly beginning to define its sound -- a mix of Grateful Dead-inspired psychedelic jamming, jazzy fluidity, and funk-savvy grooves. Phish released its first, self-titled album in 1986, but like the Dead, they were always more about the live experience than the recording studio. And by the end of the '80s they were hitting the road hard, building up a hefty, dedicated audience and pretty much creating the jam-band circuit in the process. Their songwriting shone on albums like 'A Picture of Nectar,' 'Billy Breathes,' and 'The Story of a Ghost,' while their concerts became a nexus for thousands of hardy Phish Heads. You can't keep Phish out of water for long, and these days they continue to take their idiosyncratic but infectious sound to the people, creating new generations of Phish fans along the way.

    Sound was not great

by Parksdbra on 4/24/24Sphere - Las Vegas

Our sound in the 110s each night wasn’t good. The whole experience graphics and lights were amazing. But the sound quality was terrible. Still had a great time! Would highly recommend. Just don’t sit in that section.

    Sphere is a magical place

by Lazlo on 4/24/24Sphere - Las Vegas

Words cannot describe what a game changer the sphere is for the live music experience. The sound is phenomenally amazing, even when you’re so far right of center that you can touch the led wall the sound sounds like the speakers are absolutely tuned perfectly to your seat. Yeah the screen is cooling and amazing, but the sound system and it’s nearly 170,00 speaker array are the true stars of the venue.

2 of the greatest musical experiences of my lifetime

by Zac R. on 4/24/24Sphere - Las Vegas

Phish performed 2 of the greatest shows I've had the privilege to witness as a long time fan. Pictures do not do this venue justice! It's indescribable. You need to get to Vegas and see it in person. But also Phish pushed that venue to it's limits. I doubt many bands will be able to put the Sphere to the test and utilize it's full capabilities like Phish did.

    New level of Phish

by Jennifer F on 4/24/24Sphere - Las Vegas

We only got to attend night 4, but I can only imagine seeing the evolution of the 4 nights. This was amazing. Sphere staff, the show, fans, everything was worth the whirlwind trip to Vegas to catch another Phish show ⭕️

    Amazing venue, terrible seats

    by Scuba_gilly on 4/24/24Sphere - Las Vegas

The music & venue were amazing. Our seats in 107 were terrible. The view of the screen was so limited that we missed 90% of the show. I don’t understand why they even built these 100 sections, totally a bummer considering the price.

    Absolutely out of this world!

by jayreeder on 4/23/24Sphere - Las Vegas

An incredible Phish show at an otherworldly venue! Great performance by the band. In our location the sound was fantastic and you could hear all instruments clearly. This allowed to focus in on whoever was leading the groove in a particular jam. The light-screen show was amazing. There were elements of this where I was standing with a wide grin watching with amazement and joy. Especially during the Pillow Jets sequence. Absolutely stunning. Taste, Twist, and Tube, among others were also incredible. I loved this show. Fuego is one of my favorites and the jam was absolutely phenomenal.

    Phish - Night 1 at the Sphere - 4/18/24

by Outnumbers on 4/23/24Sphere - Las Vegas

Awesome! Just made it inside as the band was getting on the stage, after 45+ minutes in line, which was a little painful. I did hear that the lines moved along for the other shows. We sat in Section 404, which turned out to be one of the better sections to catch the visual and audio parts. There was no obstruction issues as with the back of the 100s, and the spatial sound was excellent, aside from a couple of abrupt switches from the back to the front channels twice at the beginning of the show. It was great to see the visuals, it also appeared that the graphics were better for the last 3 nights. Still, nice to have been there, I wouldn't have sold this ticket anyway. Phish was really tight and the song selection was excellent. As for other things, the concourse was well dressed up in donuts and also lit up in view of the escalator as one of the posters sold. It's a beautiful place and one to revisit, for sure.

    Phish @ Sphere

by Babaracas on 4/23/24Sphere - Las Vegas

The Sphere is a unique experience and one that everyone should try at least once. I however am of the opinion that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. There’s nothing wrong (broke) with Phish’s “normal” concert format with lights. While the visuals that the Sphere provides are unlike anything anyone has seen, I for one am looking forward to my next phish concert the way they’ve always done it.

    Phish at Sphere

by pepper on 4/23/24Sphere - Las Vegas

One of the best shows I’ve been. I love Phish and experience them at Sphere was mind blowing, the sound was amazing, everything was great, but at the same time it’s in my opinion a small venue for the band and phans.

    Good, but not great

by PhishPhan on 4/23/24Sphere - Las Vegas

Not sure I'd see a Sphere show again. Visuals were impressive, but the scene wasn't fantastic. Music was good enough (it's Phish) - but I'd rather just see them play in stadiums where it's accessible to all phans. They couldn't play the way they normally do because it all had to be synced with the background images, so just not the show that I'd hoped for.

    Greatest night!

The sphere is amazing. I sat in section 310 and my view was amazing. The sound was like no other. The experience overall was top notch. I can't wait to go back to Vegas to see Phish play again!
