Physical comedy
Union Square Theatre - New York
Excellent show. Have seen twice. Consistent performances. 4 actors play a variety of characters. Minimal stage props so lots of amazing and hysterical physical acting. I can't believe the original did it with only two actors!

Non-stop laughs
Union Square Theatre - New York
This is a very fast-paced and funny production. The changing characters, the timing of the actors, the "special" effects and allusions to the Hitchcock cannon make for a lively play that was a joy to watch.

Nice play with very talented actors!
Union Square Theatre - New York
Nice play for a night out with family or friends. Only 4 actors but very talented. The theater is small so any seat is good with no obtracted view. Kids 13 and under will get bored. We enjoyed the play and had a good time.

worst show I have seen....
Union Square Theatre - New York
I missed the original version. maybe, if I did see the original, I would have had a different perspective. This show seemed to be a spoof of an original broadcast. Nothing was funny to me. I felt I was the only one, though. others were laughing throughout the show. I just did not get the humor. My guess is...everyone was over 50-60 years old. They must be very familiar with the original version. I know alfred hitchcock films are dated in the early 1900s, so that's the only thing I can think of. I left at the intermission. I fell asleep during the first half. I just could not get into the play. Again, I may have missed the prequel to this show. And I do go to several broadway-type shows per year, so I am not a novice in what to expect out of these shows.

not what I expected
union square theater - manhattan
I may have missed the original version. I actually did not see/read/know what the original story was about. it's possible if I knew about the original story, I may have had a different perspective on the show. I thought it was going to be a regular broadway-type show. it was not. apparently, it's supposed to be a spoof of an original broadcast. I did not get any of the comedy it was supposed to portray. It seemed the spoofing was supposed to be a low-budget version of an actual film. Again, it wasn't funny at all to me. I left after the first half. I fell asleep during the first half. This was a total loss for me. It was the worst live show I attended. I am not an avid patron of broadway-type shows, but I do see 2-3 shows per year. Sorry, this show did not do it for me. Again, I may have missed the original broadcast. May be it would have been better for my experience, if I did.

Great fun for all
Union Square Theatre - New York
Fast paced and clever. You don't have to be familiar with the original movie to enjoy the show. Actors are obviously enjoying themselves. Theater is small and intimate so you can sit in the Mezzanine and still see everything.

“The two-time Tony® Award-winning "39 Steps" is a comedic spoof of the classic 1935 film, with only 4 "insanely talented" actors portraying more than 150 characters, sometimes changing roles in the blink of an eye. The brilliantly madcap story follows our dashing hero Richard Hannay as he races to solve the mystery of The 39 Steps, all the while trying to clear his name! The show’s uproarious fast-paced 100 minutes promises to leave you gasping for breath… in a good way!"
Ben Brantley of the New York Times called it “Absurdly enjoyable,” “A perfect soufflé,” and “Theatre at its finest.” Liz Smith of the New York Post called it “The most entertaining show on Broadway, ” and Joe Dziemianowicz of the Daily News said it’s “Ingenious! A Dizzy Delight!”
