    Not a good show

    by D. S. on 11/5/19Effingham Performance Center - Effingham

The band overpowered the singing. The main singer didn’t sound like Neil Diamond. Backup singers weren’t very good. Overall, the worst show we have seen in Effingham.

Too much rock, too little Neil

by v.r. on 11/5/19Effingham Performance Center - Effingham

Totally disappointing. It felt like a self promoting want to be rock band under the pretense of a Neil Diamond tribute. Very little of this show was true to the original artist. Every song was changed in some way. The guitar solos were excessive and not appropriate for this targeted audience. Three costume changes for a hour and a half show was a joke. We stayed till the end, but an entire row behind us left at the intermission- that’s a review in itself

    Holy Cow!!!!

by Lauren on 11/5/19Effingham Performance Center - Effingham

I had heard that this band was good but I had no idea about the production level of the entire show. The crowd was into it from the very first song and by the time they played Sweet Caroline they were dancing in the aisles. This is a must see show it did not disappoint. I will definitely see them again! We highly recommend the Traveling Salvation Show!!!

Neil was entertaining, 52nd Street was not

    by LB47 on 9/27/17Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

52nd Street opened the show, they are musically loud and a show off group. I did not care for them, I came to hear the songs of Billy Joel sang the way he does them. Many people did like them, but not me. The Neil diamond show was very entertaining. The songs were in Neil's style and the audience was encouraged to join in many times. Kieth Allynn has the spirit of Neil, shared his own spirit as he interacted with the audience, and made the night worthwhile. If I had come late and only experienced the second part of the evening I would give it 5 stars.

    Tremendous Tributes

by MyCatZuzu on 9/27/17Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

All the old favorites for two stars of the 70's! Billy Joel tribute artist was excellent; the only issue was -- for the second time this year -- the sound system at the Genesee. The mike volume for the lead singer was set way too low for his first two songs. This is an inexcusable error that (1) should not happen in the first place; or, if it does ever happen, (2) should be corrected within 10 seconds of the start of the performance. Neil Diamond tribute artist was excellent and fun; he provided history and trivia for each song and connected with the audience (eye contact, singing in the aisle, shaking hands, posing for selfies, making jokes). His "former Elvis Impersonator" persona was evident in his voice, tempo, and body language. The lightning-speed color changes in his vest were incredible. He did a great job clearly introducing each of the members of his backup band by name and geographic origin.

Venue is good, 1st Act TERRIBLE, 2nd Act Very Good

    by Coz1234 on 9/27/17Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

There were two different bands/singers in this show - the first one that allegedly covered Billy Joel songs, and the second who performed Neil Diamond songs. Whoever was working the sound board for the first act should be fired. We were first row loge in the center (perfect seats!), and the base was SO LOUD (bam! bam! bam!) that one could literally hear nothing else. Was anyone actually singing?!?!? Awful! Had there not been a second act we would have asked for a refund and left. Thankfully the second (main) act did not have the same problem, and was delightful. The sound tech on the first one should be made to sit and listen to his own mixing as punishment. The venue has a nice layout and plenty of bars.
