About

TYR IN CONCERT:

Metal band Tyr have put the tiny Faroe Islands on the heavy metal map with their Norse mythology-inspired songs and Viking Age style. Their unique fusion sound spans several metal subgenres, and their hard-hitting, highly theatrical performances bring together fans of all stripes. A beloved live act that has appeared at Paganfest and on the 70,000 Tons of Metal concert cruise, Tyr brings plenty of experience to the stage every time they treat US fans to their hair-raising sets on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Tyr formed in the Faroe Islands in 1998 after a fruitful jam session between founding members Heri Joensen and Kari Streymoy. In its early days the band honed a diverse hybrid sound with the intention of breaking down the barriers between metal's divisive subgenres. Their 2002 debut album How Far to Asgaard drew heavily on Norse mythology and Viking lore, establishing a unique sonic and visual identity that earned them legions of fans. A string of acclaimed albums followed during the ‘00s including 2006’s Ragnarok and 2009’s By the Light of the Northern Star. In addition to tours with Alestorm, Eluveitie, and Amon Amarth, the band has appeared on both the US and European legs of Paganfest. A veteran live act beloved for their intensity and showmanship, Tyr continues to slay ticket buyers on their high-octane tours.

    Amazing Concert!

by CaptainKurse on 4/2/24Gramercy Theatre - New York

I really enjoyed the Gramercy for this show. It was my first time there and I would definitely go again. They had tall stool seats available for $20 each that were close to the stage. The seat wasn’t particularly comfortable but it beats standing when you have leg issues like I do. Also they were close enough to see the expressions of all the band members which was awesome and not something I can normally do. The venue was small but nice. The line up was amazing and I didn’t expect to love all 4 bands. It was even possible to see and talk to them at their vendor tables. My cousin and I had an amazing time and this was a well-worth it experience.

nice show but a few mistakes

by Chiro on 4/1/24Gramercy Theatre - New York

I have been in quite some concerts at the gramercy theater and all of them has been such a wonderful experience, of course Tyr gig wasn't the exception, all the bands did such a great show and the energy was amazing; the only thing to improve is the few failures speaking of setting the guitars or the singers mic volume (some of them low, specially on Tyr). Other than that I can totally say it was an amazing show overall and the bands were awesome. Thanks Gramercy!

    Awesome first experience!

    by 37W3 on 6/6/18Reverb - Reading

I never thought that at 65 y/o I would be attending a Metal Concert, Wasn't sure what to expect. The people were friendly, and extremely happy. The venue had plenty of room for people to walk. I liked the experience and the music so much that the next day I went out and bought a Tyr CD!

    Tyr was SUPER fun

    by 1111471 on 6/3/18The Masquerade - Atlanta

Excellent show, really fun, and great energy. Only downside was the masquerade hell is difficult to see the stage when crowded.

Absolutely amazing, worth the five hour drive it took to get to the venue. Would definitely come back down to see them again.

    Tyr/Orphaned Land/Ghost Ship Octavius/Aeternam!!!!

    by andyrea84 on 5/31/18The Masquerade - Atlanta

This was our first time at The Masquerade's new location and we were not disappointed! It's right downtown in a less-than-pristine area, but we had no problems. I'm excited to see how the revitalization of Underground Atlanta progresses, but I'm please that The Masquerade will be calling this area home for the next several years. Also, the show was AMAZING!!!! All four bands killed it!!!

    The ultimate show!

by Faustus on 5/7/10Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

Usually peabody's is completely packed and has a tendency towards bad sound! This was not the case when Tyr played there! A intimate crowd of 30 people coupled with sound that equals a studio, set Tyr's show as the ultimate show! In their 1 1/2 hour set, Tyr covered songs from every album the band has out! I truly hope they come back to Cleveland soon! Hail to the hammer!
