The venue was crowded. There was barely room to stand. Tigran Hamasyan was amazing. Very good jazz piano player. Perhaps he should add more instruments. But it was a great concert.
Tigran is a breathtakingly original artist with peerless technique. His fusion of traditional Armenian folk music, jazz, and rock is unlike anything you've ever heard. The music is hauntingly beautiful and the piano playing is dazzling.
Saturday, April 30, I had the pleasure of listening to Tigran Hamasyan on piano. I have never seen someone play the piano like him before. He does not just play the piano, he creates. It is sacred ground for him. Instead of looking at the keys from above, sitting upright, he goes down to the level of the keys, listening to them, having a conversation with them. He does not take one note for granted. It is as if he was bowing down to the keys. He captured the essence and the delicacy of the Armenian hymns. He is truly an artist. Tigran beautifully created seamless connections between his piano strokes in conjunction with the deep, soulful sounds of a small choir.
I loved everything about this concert. For month's I'd been listening to the Luys i Luso album and enjoying the music, but I was unprepared for how good the live experience would be. For one thing, just watching Tigran Hamasyan play the piano is mesmerizing. It's hard to imagine how some feats are even humanly possible. The way he plays the piano is just awe-inspiring. Every time I think back to this performance, I smile knowing how fortunate I was to experience it in person.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the amazing and transcendental music of Tigran Hamasyan on Saturday night at the UCLA Royce Hall. When the 90 minute set was over, there was an instantaneous, enthusiastic and emotionally-charged standing ovation for what seemed 10 minutes or so! I looked around and the entire and diverse audience was truly moved. The encore that began with the singing of Komitas was the icing on the cake! I have seen Tigran in many concerts with diverse music (from Jazz, to rock, to classical, to sacred music) and he always, always surprises and delights!
One of the best concerts I've seen in years -- and I attend a lot of concerts. Tigran Hamasyan is a young Armenian jazz pianist and composer. The show consisted of him improvising over lush choral arrangements he wrote based on ancient folks melodies, sung by an incredible eight-piece choir from Yerevan, Armenia. The result was spiritual, moving and breathtakingly beautiful.
Fantastic, out of this world talent and ability. Not just music, true meditation❤️
