My friends and I signed up for this evening yoga class anticipating a relaxing stretch after an afternoon of intense workouts. First, the class was rescheduled to a later time. It started at 6:00 pm, and we'd planned for an hour class, followed by time to shower before heading out for a fun dinner.
During the class intro we were informed that the class would actually be 2 hrs long. The instructor insisted it was all about having fun. Well, it turned out to be a power yoga class. They moved through the exercises way too quickly for my taste (and I do have yoga experience). The instructor didn't shut up and seemed to fancy herself some kind of guru, providing a constant stream of life lessons. Super annoying. At one point, she challenged everyone to step outside of their comfort zone and attempt to kick into a handstand (on a concrete patio). I refrained due to a recently healed shoulder injury, and one of the assistant teachers gave me a hard time, insisting handstands are fine with shoulder injuries. Um, no.
My friends and I left after about 75 min, just when they were getting to the relaxing portion. We didn't make it to dinner until after 9:00 pm as it was.
Instead of feeling invigorated, we were all extremely sore the next morning before our next scheduled workouts.
Bottom line, they should have specified the class intensity level / duration in the schedule and the instructor should stop talking. I signed up for yoga, not life coaching or a religious lesson.
