My mother-in-law was coming for a visit and I didn't know what I was going to do to entertain her. Lucky for me, I was able to snag tickets for Signature Theatre's production of "Spin". I was a little nervous since it was a "work in progress" and my mother-in-law prefers the opera. But I needn't have worried. Signature came through with another outstanding production. My mother-in-law laughed all the way through the show and thoroughly enjoyed it. She was still raving about it the next day, so I knew I had scored lots of brownie points with her. Thank you, Signature Theatre!
It was really exciting to watch this siglab production and with such fantastic performers. The performances were excellent and the music was fun and entertaining. Wouldn't want to miss it - especially for such a good deal!
Problems: flow...too many long pauses in transitions. Need to pick up the pace. Male lead used too many profanities. He sings a bit flat. No real attraction there between him and schoolteacher lead. Daughter is not a strong actress, could hardly hear her when speaking. Uneven overall. Successes: Riddle character fun to watch. Daughter can really sing. Kid was cute. Lyrics were well written, possibly the high point of the musical. Music just so...so...Too loud at times. Hopefully they will have some well known and really talented players in Seoul. I am a huge fan of Korean movies and dramas. I haven't seen Speedy Scandal, but intend to do so.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable musical. I cannot believe it is still in development. The cast is top notch with great singing by the male and female leads (James Gardiner, Carolyn Cole, and the entire ensemble. The child who plays Jesse is adorable and very talented and does a great job as does his teacher. Eric Schaeffer has done another excellent job in melding together all the talents into a first rate production. This should be a big hit in Korea when it plays there , and there is no reason that it should not be on Broadway.
Spin was a great show. The lead cast had amazing voices and acting talent. The story line was cute and believable. I had a nice time.
This was my first time at the Signature Theater. I was astounded by the talent and quality of this show. The actors were well prepared and delivered an outstanding performance. The theater itself is also a must see. Well done, Arlington!
