Joseph Somers-Morales, the R&B and pop singer-songwriter who performs under the name SoMo, made the jump from YouTube sensation to a major-label recording deal in 2013. The path of the Texas-based vocalist and pianist began in 2009, when he began recording videos of himself singing cover songs and posting them online. His YouTube success grew exponentially in late 2011, after he unleashed a medley of tracks from Drake's Take Care album that has since garnered more than 3.5 million views. That success prompted SoMo to start working on original music, and he released the resulting mixtape, My Life, as a free download in September of 2012. "Ride," the first single from My Life, spawned his first professional music video, which was shot and directed by Dan Gotti. From there, SoMo hit the tour trail, selling out tickets for many of his concerts on the U.S. club circuit. That success caught the attention of Republic Records, which signed him in October of 2013. SoMo continues to keep in touch with his growing stable of fans by regularly posting cover songs on YouTube.
