SKY-PONY IN CONCERT:
Sky-Pony is half ‘60s girl group, half performance art collective, and entirely riveting entertainment. With wild costumes, choreographed dance routines, and audience participation, their high-concept stage shows are a one-of-a-kind spectacle—-something like a cross between The Supremes and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Ticket buyers will see the band blur the lines between musical theater, art rock, and indie pop with humorous, cheeky, and exciting results. The project began as the creative outlet of Tony-nominated musical actress Lauren Worsham and her songwriting husband Kyle Jarrow, but quickly took on a life of its own as fans latched on to their unique sound and outré live shows. All of the theatrics only enhance Jarrow’s brilliant songs and Worsham’s impeccable vocals, which make every experiment that the band stages an exciting thrill ride.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Wheny they formed Sky-Pony in 2011, husband and wife team Kyle Jarrow and Lauren Worsham borrowd from their impressive musical theater pedigrees (Worsham won a Drama Desk Award in 2014, while Jarrow won an Obie Award in 2004). TO bring their unique compositions to life, the couple assembled a core group of six musicians (guitar, bass, drums, cello, and backing vocalists) to play on stage with them. The band quickly earned a following with their larger-than-life productions, and in 2012 they released their debut EP Say You Love Me Like You Mean It to critical acclaim. They followed up in 2013 with two additional EPs, Raptured Live and Songs of Love and Misery. Since then this this arty, theatrical rock band has toured theatrical venues regularly, making a name for themselves in their native New York and beyond.
This was a true NEw York surprise experience of a lifetime. First off, the most intimate setting at the Mercury Lounge , but unbelievably great performance, musically and dramatically. The band is a performance troupe that lives the music on stage. If you have a chance to see them , you will not be dissapointed. Such a great performance! I totally loved the band, they rock and roll the floor! The visual elements were amazing, costumes, projectors, they made me laugh and feel happy. And the free cupcakes which totally matched the style of the band and the song, I was leaving with the biggest smile on my face:) and of'course the music was great! Sky-pony knows how to make you happy!
This show was tight, well produced, incredible songs, and gorgeous people. I loved every minute of it.
