About

SIERRA LEONE’S REFUGEE ALL-STARS IN CONCERT:

Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars perform an upbeat world music style known as baskeda that loosely resembles reggae but incorporates various African percussion instruments. The group takes these traditional elements and updates them with modern elements like electric guitars and organs to arrive at a unique sound that is both eclectic and invigorating. In concert the band plays with flawless style, lighthearted fun, and funky rhythm,  while lead singer Reuben Koroma makes every song a triumphant anthem for freedom with his recurring lyrical themes of love and unity. On their 2015 US tour, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars are sure to have ticket buyers grooving along to their infectiously positive message and multi-faceted sound.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Reuben Koroma grew up loving the baskeda music of his native Sierra Leone, absorbing it and many other styles of West African music during his youth and early years as a session musician. In 1991 Koroma was forced to flee his homeland during the 11-year-long Sierra Leone Civil War. But out of this prolonged tragedy grew the seed of hope as Koroma began assembling Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars with his fellow exiled countrymen. When they finally returned to a unified country in 2002, the group immediately began spreading their humanitarian message of love and acceptance. In 2006 the band released their debut album Live Like a Refugee and won recognition among world music circles. Further renown and critical acclaim followed with the release of their next two albums Rise & Shine (2010) and Radio Salone (2012). The group launched a world tour after the release of their fourth album Libation (2014), bringing their hopeful sound and celebratory live show to fans around the globe.

Fantastic!! The group brought great energy with them, sharing with the audience. It was even better when the audience got the opportunity to participate, dancing. Great performances.

They were a great band but the obvious energy that they brought to stage was what made their performance spectacular.
