Caribbean feeling in the middle of winter- Yea Mon

by MrMarley on 10/26/11State Theatre - Kalamazoo

Where else in Michigan in the middle of winter can you feel like your in Jamaica? Jerk Chicken, Red Stripe, Caribbean crafts and great Reggae music. Devon Brown and Dub Dis were outstanding! Repect to Bob Marley every time!

The show was amazing. Zion Lion and Dub Dis were great performers in this beautiful venue. Bob Marley would have been proud. :)

    Same band, same songs

by via29 on 1/31/11State Theatre, Kalamazoo - Kalamazoo

My first time going to this was last year, so I wanted to go back again this year to check out some new reggae bands. Low and behold that the opening act was the same as it was last year, and they performed until after 10pm. I had hoped to hear more "Bob Marley" and they only performed his "mainstream" songs, not the deeper, good stuff that Bob made. We first had to listen to the band's own original songs and it was well after an hour or more of being there that they finally finished. By the time the 2nd band started I'd felt like it was time for me to go home, so I only had the patience to sit and listen to two of the new bands song. Shame, because it could have been a good night, but the 1st band took so long to finish that we were just plain exhausted. For that reason I felt like I wasted my money, seeing the same band two years in a row. Not to mention I came from Grand Rapids for this event, and I could have seen this same band locally at Billy's lounge. What made this event even salvageable was that the band Zion Lion isn't actually bad, in fact they are pretty good. I was just hoping for more variety.
